The metre long sambo I got on
The metre long sambo I got on Monday morning in 8 metres. Gave me gear a solid workout and was awesome watching it swim off upon release. First snapper off the rocks on Good Friday was pretty cool too.

Reel Affair
As a UNI stdent went out with a bunch of Anaesthetist (knock you out Drs) on a charter to the Murions. Hooked up big time to what felt like terra firma in 20odd m of water.
After a massive battle on my stick arms a massive Queensland groper surfaced, a good 2m+ fish, and the mouth would easily have swollowed me whole. Just such an impressive fish, and we couldnt get it up for a photo.
Needed a bit of rescue swimming after floating on the first release but once recovered it was a sight to see it swim gracefully back down. At least it had no barotrauma.
Interesting for such a slow fish it had 2 remoras and 3 cobes that would not leave its side, and kept buzzing it as we were reviving it.
Was just awesome.

It was
And my arms felt like sticks. I thought that I was reefed for ages, but couldnt explain the fact that the "reef" moved. It only fought like a fish when I managed to turn its head upwards. The rest of the time it felt more like it was just swimming around at leasure. Never forget it.

Split decision
Too many moments that I will remember for the rest of my life to boil it down to just one special fish. But for the purpose of the thread I'll say a toss up between my first Marlin with Adam and Pete D last year as my special fish,
but for sheer joy and excitement at watching someone else nearly wet themselves, whilst giggling like a little school girl for close to an hour after capture would have to go to Kasey's 24kg+ Dhuie on jig.
Cheers

mine would be 1st trip to
mine would be 1st trip to exmouth, still very drunk from the night befor but hey u still go fishing, put the boat in and away we went, the aim was to troll for a mac or to while driving to the fishing grounds, so in go the super deep drivers and i sit back and try to feel normal 5 mins later i hear a farking loud bang and i though wft any way line starts pooring off the penn 310 gti and the rod is slowly making its way of the back of the boat, what happens was the mac hit the deep divers that hard it had snapped the black plastic rod holder (aleast 3 to 4mm thick) never herd anythink like it befor but i was keen to get back on the piss after that as i was so amped, one of the best fishing trips i have evea done and i will never forget it.

Ono Island in March.Surface
Ono Island in March.
Surface strike of a Big GT around twenty meters from the boat destroyed in seconds.
The water this fish moved and the hole it left where my lure once lay is etched in my memory for life.

Love it Ryan
I did that same combo but in reverse quite a few years ago now, with a 17kg spaniard in the morning behind staggies and a 17kg dhuie first drop when we got out wide. Very very memorable day.
Mindarie has been good to me over the years.
Cheers

And this little fella
Was chased by a shark, and was so brave to get away jumped clean over the transom off the boat. Little fish, mighty leap.
Little superman went back to get bigger.

February this yr, did a week
February this yr, did a week long trip to quobba. Wind was howling for the first few days but eased up to almost prefect weather. The whole time we were there you could see birds woking the surface, must have been at least 5 or more different flocks at any given time. But the damn things never came closer than 100 metres or so from the rocks. With only two days left they finally made there way in but 300 metres up the coast. From there it was on!! We grabbed a rod each and ran the whole way up on the bottom ledges, when we got there they where that close you could see the tuna, quennies and a few massive sharks just churning it up.. Was a sight to see for the first time!! First cast each and we were on. Tuna all over 10kg and a few quennies and who knows how many drops n bust offs from there on. Action went on all day for the last few days, but never lasted more than a few casts before they moved back out. Luckily they kept coming back in, just never where we were! Best memories of fishing to date.

having grown up in the central wheat belt the old man gave his old mans shack at green head and we ended up getting a holiday unit in denison. my best day is not so much that we got big fish but the amount we got one saturday night. I was about 10 or 11 and was as keen as mustard to fish so our favoured spot was seven mile. between us in the matter of about 2 hours we ended up with 72 fish. 30 ruffly where soapies the rest tailor and a hand full of herring. it was such a good night. ok before you all jump the band wagon and have a go about bag limits, you have to remember this was before bag limits and we only got to see the hallowed surf a few times a year so this wasa once off. I am now harder on myself and my 3 kids about the importance of fishing for the future than most I know. I would like to think that other people could have days as good as we did back then now. I think we can only but dream.

South Conto
Been many hundreds of memories over the years but one that stands out is a day down at South Conto where there was a school of salmon swimming up and down the beach for about 4 hours in near flat conditions.
Son Jeff was around 5-6 and hadn't caught one before, the first one for himwas on my rod and I held the rod while he cranked it in, the second one again on my rod with the butt buried about 2 feet in the beach and me standing behind it just in case it pulled out.
His rod was an 8 foot solid glass Jarvis Walker and a 303 Mitchell reel with 15lb line, he stuck his own mulie on, cast out all of 20 metres and instantly hooked up, he called out that he had a fish on and my reply was ÿou hooked it, you land it",. He was on his own from then on.
Over the next hours he must have landed 10-12 fish, nearly all released and the other three of us were having a ball as well even swapping big rods with el cheapo 6 foot flick rods and about 5lb line that we normally chase whiting with and chasing hooked fish up and down the beach when we ran out of line on the reel.
Watching him get some bigger fish than herring and whiting was a real treat never to be forgotten and now his boys and my grandsons are doing the same thing.

No major sized fish with mine
No major sized fish with mine as this is just a a memory from when I was a kid around 10 yrs old. Fishing with a handline on the old Jurien jetty and hauling in a dozen Herring by myself. First real solo fishing experience I'll never forget. Surprised Tim Winton wasn't sitting next to me lol. Most recent would be hooking into a huge Marlin last year at Gnaraloo.

Ha ha saw that happen at
Ha ha saw that happen at Quobba quite a few years back. Mate of mine reckoned you didn't need all the fancy strong gear (we all had Mitchell 499's back then) Anyway he hooked into a huge Spaniard and all we heard was the crunching of his reel as it failed, couldn't stop farkin laughing.

Whistling rock
We were fishing on Whistling rock when this old ding bloke camped in the middle of us with an old rangoon cane rod and an early brown Diawa reel with what looked like 100lb line on it.
First cast and he hooked on to a big mackie, bang went the reel as it snapped off just above the seat and went up the rod tearing off the runners as it went, finally stopping with only a couple before the tip. We had to help him hand line the fish in otherwise he would have been still there because he looked like he was about to go in to shock it all happened that quick.
One demolished rod and reel and a 15kg mackie in his back after 1 cast.
