In Water Hull Cleaning
Submitted by snuffs on Wed, 2018-04-18 11:25
Morning All,
I have my boat in Hillary's marina. The boat is 8.2 metres in length. I'm looking at having a general underwater hull clean done every three months whilst the boat is in its pen just to keep the antifoul coating clean between annual applications. I know this service is common on the east coast (and also Freo way), but have struggled to find someone who would perform it north of the river in Hillary's. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Cheers
John

I have a feeling that they won't let you clean your hull inside the marina. Double check with Hillarys first to make sure your allowed to. You might need to wait for a calm day and then park the boat somewhere outside the marina.

CORRECT
Your are correct DTrain.
I am told that it is strictly forbidden in the marina - this despite the boat lifters washing all sorts of shit into the marina!!

Thanks guys, will look into the Hillarys regulations further. Might be back to the old fashion method of rubbing it down at Rotto followed by some beers at the pub ... just that the waters getting colder and colder... :)

I know they've banned hull
I know they've banned hull cleaning in the river too to prevent spread of bugs.... Here's a note from one of the yacht clubs in the river:
"Due to EPA and DPAW regulations, in-water hull cleaning in not permitted and is illegal. If we are found to be doing this we will be subject to large fines. If your hull requires cleaning, it needs to come out of the water to be cleaned. We will do everything we can to assist members to bring your boat out of the water for cleaning so that the growth, mussels and anit-foul is contained and disposed of in accordance with EPA and DPAW regulations."

Plenty of divers around the clubs so that sort of thing common. May pay to have a word with the club bosun to see if they know someone.

Hull cleaning
would it not be easier to get the boat lifted from the water? They have all the facilities at hillarys and I would have thought the cost would be comparable to paying someone to do it in water.
Cheers

Did for the best part of 25 years until my little ones came along now prefer my little power boat and getting out with my people.
Burning fuel all day costs a hell of a lot less than a sailing on a racing yacht.

Type of anitfoul?
What type of antifoul do you have? If it’s an ablative style then all you will end up doing is removing anitfoul. Best to just take it for a regular run at decent speed if that’s what you have.
