BFGs everyday of the week mate.

we run about 50 rangers at work, when we first moved from hilux to rangers about 4 years ago we ran cooper st maxx across the entire fleet, they were good tyres initially but they ALL started to scollop at about 15000km and by 25000km driving on a sealed road felt like driving on a courigated gravel road. We went down the warranty line for no joy...tyre dealer blamed on the car, ford blamed on the tyres. We’ve moved to BFG ATs and haven’t had an issue since. 

personally think it’s both the tyre and the car! As we didn’t have an issue with same coopers on hilux but did on ranger....weird. 

Scolloping was on inside front both sides....outside of tyres was barely worn but inside at worst part of the scollop was bad bad 

yep have to agree I went from micky T. AT's to BFG's and the BFG's are awesome. on and off road.

 Have you looked at General grabbers srls I had a set  one of my cruisers really good in sand not noisy 

way less than Micky ts and bfs per corner 

the boys at Malaga suspension do a good job they've done a few of my cars now 

I've had BFG's for my last 3sets of tyres. Traded the last cruiser after 95,000km still on the same BTG's from brand new after towing a 2.5t off-road camper trailer through the Kimberly, Red Centre and NT. Great off-road performance, slight noise increase, look tough but the best bit is I've not had a puncture in 290,000km. My mate got 120'000km from his on a FJ cruiser.

I drove my new 200 straight to the tyre shop with 28km on the clock and had BFG's fitted once again.

 Check out Toyo A/T2 open country... definitely worth a look, make sure they are the ones made in Japan if you go that way! USA made ones are not as good...

I've had many brads and rate the toyo highly in both the A/T & M/T open country... the toyo M/T is one sexy tyre!

 I got nearly 100,000km out of a set of BFGoodrich ATs. Great off road, but terrible in the wet on road.

I'm also running the General Grabber on the 200, no problems in 50,000kms, quiet for an AT tyre and wearing well, also had a good run out of BFG AT, whichever comes in at the best price.

 Try yokohama geolander, very impressed with mine.

ST Maxx will be too chicnky and nosiy for you I think.

 Toyo AT 2 . Looked at BFG but for the price of four BFGs I got five Toyos. Japanese made and so far so good. Kicked the shit out of em last weekend at Mt Augustus no Complaints. Better than the Dunlop Grandtrek at 22s that we’re on it, fuck knows what they must have done to Toyota to be a standard issue Tyre . Dirty knees me thinks!

 I had the general grabber at2's on my jeep and they were great , good off-road ,reasonably quiet and excellent life span. Highly recommend them. 

Another vote for the toyos. Went from general grabbers to these on my cruiser, and am very impressed.

Much quieter on the roads, wearing very well, good in the wet. And bag out really well when i drop the pressures down for beach work etc

 forget about the coopers, I put a new set on a Prado a couple years back, the side walls deterioated within months of having them. I've got BFG's now, they're expensive but very happy. Toyo A/T Open Country seem to be good value and only hearing good reports.

 Pirelli Scorpion ATR is what I'm putting on next week. Made for sand, gravel and wet road grip. Can handle to rocks but are crap in the mud.

Really happy with the Continentals, but they are no longer available in Australia.

 Had a set of Coopers on my Prado, 40,000km with zero issues, only about half worn when I sold it.  Just put a set on my new Landcruiser, so far nearly 10,000km including a 5000km Pilbara trip.  No chipping from the Pilbara roads.

My brother has had them on his Prado since new, second set now with 150,000km total.  He’s done everything you can name - multiple Simpson crossings, CSR, Kimberley, Pilbara - I think only one or two punctures and zero other issues.

You didnt mention budget , I do believe the toyos and bfg are good but pricey , I went with hankook atm,s I think there called on the

recomm of a mate , and for the mid tier price they are a great tyre.

Around 50,000kms now and still have 50%- 60% or a bit more to go, gave them lots of towing , higher speed runs to Esperance, Albany etc

and lots of 12 psi in sand , limestone stuff towing quads, no cuts , no punctures, and in a 265/75/16 10 ply on a G.Q , I think they were about

just over 200 quid each at the time , but a quick internet search still puts them around 250 max I think , so I am very happy with what they are for the $$$$$.

 About 6 years and 50Ks out of a set so far with a lot of towing and beach work at low PSI on a GU. They’ve been excellent.

 Are good.  We just completed 15,000k across the desert and then through Kimberlies and pilbara.  Running 25psi most of the time.  Not a mark on them.

 Pretty hard to go past the Mickey atz p3's. Rotate and balance regularly should see the life of the tyre extended  considerably.

 I’ve got the MT ATZ same as lebo on my 200 series. I got 85000 (approx) out of them before I decided to do the track from ashburton station to mt Augusta. 7 hours to do 300 Kay’s which was driving on basically shale rock. Got one puncture at mount Augusta station which was fixed by three plugs in the one hole. Took out chunks of the same type down to the steel belt and still drove it home. They still had around 20000 left on them but I had to replace the one with the chunks missing. Having seen how much rubber is under neath the tread I’m going to regrove the older tyres and put the new one on the steerers. I reckon this will give me another 20k out of them on top of what’s left on them. 

Realistically, there aren’t many bad tyres on the market these days.  We go with what we know, but for any given brand I bet I could 100 good stories and a few horror ones.

Coopers have great reviews, and all sorts of guarantees which are useless once you try and use the warranty,  I will never put them on my car again...

I'll stick with BFG AT's myself, always had a good run from them and whenever I try something else I just wish I had bought the AT's instead.

 Andrew as you know I am in the automotive industry and see many brands come through the door.there not aggressive  and noisy on road and are plenty good enough off-road.

my hilux had them fitted from new and got 75000kms out of them the trick is to make sure they are rotated regualry.

 ive has a good run with the at3 cooper discoveries. Changed my last set for a better resale on my current car, but did 8o,000kms on them, and would’ve shit  another 20 or 30 thousand on them no worries. I’ve ordered these on my new lux.

 I had a set of bfg at’s on the old Ute. They were ok, but noisier than the coopers, and seemed to wear quicker. 

 For anyone recommending BFG AT's they are now a different tyre. They are now BFG KO2's & they are good in sand & on dry tarmac, pretty average in sloppy mud, not very good on wet tarmac & dead set scarey on wet hard pack clay. They are pretty quiet on the road & seem to be very resistant to sidewall intrusion but they are not wearing very well. I've only done 20k on them & they are at least 30% worn. Nowhere near as good as they used to be & I most definitely will NOT be buying another set.

Bro's run them on their hilux and cruiser utes - go very well and keep up with me on goodyear duratracs (AT-MT crossover).

I had the original toyo at's on before and they managed over 100k kms without much looking after although I've heard the newer ones are a softer rubber and chew out a bit quicker. Still worth a look though.

Wouldn't touch coopers.

Ive had BFG All terrains for years and loved them. This year I grabbed some Dueler AT 697's with the LT construction. Quieter than the BFG's (which arent too noisy anyway). Very good in the wet. Havent been off road much yet but in the little sand work Ive done they bag out quite nicely. Much cheaper than the BFG's. Only had them for 10,000km but cant see any noticeable wear. Im really happy with them.

I've had them and wont again.

I've got the Mickey T AT p3's now and they are a great tyre, done about 70,000 now and plenty of life left.

Its my second set, in two sets of tyres i haven't had any issues nor one single flat...

The only trouble with the BF's and the Mickeys is like what others above have said, for over $400 a corner you can most likely get 6 of something else that is equally or very nearly as good.

I'll weigh that up in about 30,000 when the Mickeys i've got now need changing but if i have no issues between now and then that might be enough for me to spend the $1600+ to get my third set of MT's....

I dont notice any road noise in my ute but usually i've got the Back Street Boys greatest hits on shuffle turned up to max so maybe they are noisy??

 Ok gents I've decided to go with the BF's after reading just about everyreview, the feedback on here and some expert advice from guys with experience. I'll post up some pics as she's looking pretty sexy with the lift kit. I've gone up slightly from the  265/60/18's to 65's. Thanks again fella's 

 I've blown 2x cooper AT3's up on my ftuck so far, I won't be using them again!
