Supposed to be spending our first family night on the boat at Rotto. Looks like the highlight will be the chips and an ice cream at Woodman point cafe!
BOM local waters forecast said theres a chance of a thunderstorm in the early arvo. For my safety I dont head past the five fathom bank on days like this.
MetEye had thunder storms in the Cockburn sound area between 0800 and 1100. Bom's Meteye absolutely nailed that though when thunderstorms pop up, anything can happen wind wise.
Heading out to Gi, we were in a easterly, whilst off GI a westerly came in with some gusts that made us think we were going to head in. It went south and persisted with that for an hour or so.
Watching the cloud build and watching the radar, the storm was forming from cloud blowing off the land so we opted to head closer to the ramp just in case something popped up between us and the ramp. Got a few more squid and headed in. Just got back to the ramp as it started spitting.
Bit stunned at how many boats were heading out when there was lightning hitting between GI and the main land.

Sounds like a little cut-off low moving inland
They'll form up when you get a trough, hard to predict, and can generate some localised strong winds , at least where we live.
