Tailor in the mornings

G'day all,

Have been having plently of luck at my Halls Head locals for tailor in the evenings just after sunset. Haven't brought myself to do an early morning mission as yet....so does anyone know if tailor are generally around and on the bite in the mornings?

Personally I think mornings are the best time for tailor

But you need to be there just before sunrise as they will come on the bite really quickly just after sunrise - and quite often only bite for 15 mins to half an hour.

fish on the rising tide, tailor can bite anytime of day

one time i went tailor fishing, 5 oclock in the morning, only to have the tailor bite at 10 when the tide started rising

Great, thanks for the info fellas. Always like to know I'm half a chance to get a few if I'm going to commit to getting up so early!

yea were nice

yea they were nice. ranged from about 40 - 45cm.  would have been a fiarly decent school of them as soon as the bait hit the water 3 seconds later you were on.

just on an unweighted mulie.  when the wind picked up a bit i put on a small berley cage for a little more weight.

When they are on the bite the action is abolutely frenetic.

Morning Fishing

The thing I like most about morning fishing is that the wind generally will be off-shore and that means you can work weightless baits or even float rigs. The Tailor much prefer moving offerings and you can also use much lighter gear. A lot more fun than hurling the 12 footer out with a #4 sinker. I like to set a large bait with the big rod for a chance at shark or Mulloway while baitcasting for Tailor on smaller gear.

yea the lighter gear is much

yea the lighter gear is much more fun.  i usually use my Daiwa TD SOL series rod with a small reel.  really nice casting distance with unweighted mulies.
