...that sambo was tagged in metro waters. There was an extensive tagging program, near Rotto, occurring a few years back. Most likely a few members on here who were directly involved.
fish swam off strongly so it's still out there marauding the reefs , hopefully someone else gets the chance to stretch their arms on it cause it caused me some pain! Went close to 35 kg.
Will update as and when I get some news from fisheries, tried to use their tagged fish app but doesn't cover Samsons.
Yeah, leave the tag in for, hopefully, other recaptures. Sambos just keep on going on. All they are after is an approx location & depth re-caught, length, health and anything else of interest.
Even if you keep a tagged demersal fish, this is ALL they are after. If you catch a tagged Dhu or any others, they DO NOT want the fish, just the info
I will be calling fisheries tomorrow as first day back at work today after holidays, the tag nu is 62705 and the fish weighed close to 35 kg's and measured approximately 140cm though that was give and take as didn't have brag mat and only used boat size stickers so not overly accurate im afraid.
Seemingly and potentially effecting the whole state ......that is one hell of a migration, one wonders if all fish do it annually or what and given samsons get well into the southern states just how far was this fish going?
called Jamie and given him the info so thanks Jody all info from you re original capture was spot on worth checking out westag tagging on Facebook though had to use the wife's as I'm not on it. A sad note though was the gentleman that tagged the Samson has passed away so my respects to him. Good luck to the next guy that hooks that fish cause on 40 pnd it made the Stella scream n me sweat.Ps tag stayed in for next poor bugger
I got a tagged Samson fish (the one in my avatar) a few years back while fishing with Shikari. The sambo had been caught, tagged and released exactly a year before by Al on Shikari. Once again it was released for someone else to catch.

Excellent
Great looking conditions and a good catch.
Will be interesting to see the result from the tag info.

INFO
Hard to see the number clearly in the pic but looks like it ends in 5 - 62705 and 62709 were both tagged on 7th Jan 2006 in the aggregation run.

Tag
Is it proper to leave the tag in the fish when released back into the water or does ANSA want the tag?

ANSA
Striker, it's not fisheries you need to call. The phone number on the tag is an ANSA number. They are the ones you need to contact.
1800 682 002 - direct to the main man who holds all the records for the tagging program.
Growth seems about right, but I hate the fuckers and they are all too big for my likes.
Jamie will give you the info, plus a certificate, and if your lucky ...... a tagging cap ;)
