Spotters service
Submitted by mcgoo on Mon, 2016-02-15 06:12
G'day everyone, its not often that I get in contact with a company or business when there's an issue with a product..
However I got in touch with spotters regarding a decal/logo that had fallen out of the arm of my sunnies.. Sent an email with a general inquiry regarding how I would purchase replacements..
sent the email yesterday, got a reply first thing this morning and they're posting them out to me free of charge.. Legends!!
goes to show that you get what you pay for in regards to quality and service..

Good heads up mcgoo , might get the effort and do the same after my decal went walkies as well .. for the couple of hundred they cost , it would seem they skimped on decent adhesive .

Did you go through spotters
Did you go through spotters them selves? I have a cracked lense and the place I purchased them from wanted nothing to do with it, wouldn't even ring spotters!

Breaches consumer law
Don't know both sides however the law simply states, you have
1. Right of return to place of purchase
2. Right of return direct to manufacturer
The choice is made by a consumer not the store of purchase or the manufacturer.
phone consumer affairs if you get no result but I wouldn't be returning to that store to make another purchase.
pm if you need any assistance

I cracked a lense on my spotters a few months ago and rang them direct. They were straight on to it and even replaced my frame. Very good service.
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.

Better than Oakley then
Was given a very expensive pair of Juliet's by SWRT (Subaru World Rally Team) years ago with a titanium frame that is indestructible according to the promo. And yes the frame is.
Changes to lenses a few time including to Polarised, which wasn't bad (but not as good as Spotters, Mako or MJ's IMO).
Now they are scratched and despite the frame being perfect they said they no longer make the lenses. Well I questioned them about making an indestructible frame but not then keeping up the lenses and the basic argument I got back (via a retailor I have to admit) is that times have changed.
These sunnies have got sentimental value but without lenses are crap.
Fishing wise wont be getting Oakley's again and will stick with other trusted Polarised glasses.

Spotters
i have a pair of spotters with the glass photo chromatic lenses, I paid about $350 for them. They have horizontal lines appearing in the lenses and when I contacted spotters they said this happens when you go from hot sun into air conditioning and basically it is not a warrantable problem.
I wear these sunnies in Bali and go from hot outside conditions into a cold air conditioned hotel room and that is what has probably caused it.
Would I buy spotters again ? Probably not.

That's odd. I had a look at
That's odd. I had a look at the Spotters warranty(I have a pair) and it doesn't mention this particular circumstance. What it does say is:
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
There is also no mention of this particular problem under their section on "Eyewear Care"
If it was me I would be asking them to support their refusal to honour warranty as this would seem to a "failure to be of acceptable quality".
For glasses that cost $350, its definitely worth pushing the envelope.
cheers

Thanks
thanks for that info cruise control I had not read their warranty terms. I will most definitely persue this after reading that information. Will send them back and post the outcome on this thread when I hear back from them.

Spotters
Ok so sent my spotters back to spotters Aust and they contacted me yesterday with the probable cause of this issue being going from hot to cold temps and the lenses expand and contract at different rates, they informed me that this is not a warrantable problem. They said it is unusual for it to happen as quick as it has with my glasses and that they were in exceptional condition.
Their offer to me was to give me discount on a new set of sunnies of my choice, $160 which is $100 cheaper than I can buy them at the shops.
Better than nothing but I think I will persue this further.

Yep. I think its worth it.
Yep. I think its worth it. Ask them to explain where in their warranty does it say that you can't go from a hot to cold environment.
FFS that's walking off the street on a 40 degree day into an air conditioned building. Or conversely walking off the ski slopes into a chalet. People do this everyday and they don't wrap their glasses up in a blanket to keep them warm.
Or are they suggesting you took them from an oven and put them in a fridge ?
Speak to them and go up the chain of command until you get a senior person who will give you a replacement pair or an answer you are happy with.

I can't recommend the spotters service team enough. Had several cracked lenses replaced over the years and also arm hinges. Service has alway been great and very reasonable prices.

Update on my Maui Jims.
Update on my Maui Jims.
Received them back from Sydney yesterday. Both lenses replaced no charge. Might celebrate that little win with a new pair of Maui's. Premium service for a premium product.
