Hi guys
I am looking for some advice on blades and soft plastics. Just wondering what is the best blade or soft plastic on whiting, herring and other smaller species.
Thanks in advance

Small 3inch jerk baits for herring - Mccarthy do one in a white which gets 12 herring pretty quick. Whiting I use the 2 inch red bloodworm

1/16 - 1/8th ounce dependent
1/16 - 1/8th ounce dependent on wind - normally flick them out let them sink a little then 3 cranks n pause repeat. Of the jetty in Busso dynamite way to get amongst them don't need burley just walk out flick for hezzas walk back flick for squid

Lures
For blades the duo tetra works bivi are my favourite blade for any type of fishing.
As for plastics, herring will eat most small 'grub-like' plastic. Never really targeted whiting on plastics, always surface lures like bassday sugarpens and skinnypop jrs.

How do you fish for herring with SP's? With a berley cage or blob? Or just on it's own like you would normally?

Berley cage/blob...
...not a bad idea, except that all that organic material would be likely to attract blowies and/or wrasse, and your SP gets shredded. 1-4kg braid to a 4kg fc leader, tied directly to as light a jighead as you can get away with!
As for whiting and softies, the 2" Zman grubs in a brown colour have worked for me when you're in a deeper channel and the fish simply won't come up for a surface lure..again, blowies can stuff this plan up so a couple of little sinking stickbaits in your kit are a good idea as well.
