Hillareys wouldnt be my first pick of sharking spots but if you do go there maybe try the south wall out by the very end or just past AQUA where you see some reef 50m or so out from the rock wall (boy in a boat reef)

It has been a long time since I fished there, used to live just up the road so it was like a second home back then.

We used to balloon at nights a LOT for sharks of the end of the south wall (right on the point) and had some success. Live tailor usually got a hit. For some reason we never had much luck until after midnight but we had to be there about 4pm at the latest to get the spot and hold it. 

Go early, catch livies and hope the easterly comes in. Better with a touch of north in it to avoid the cardinal marker just out from boyinaboat reef.

We hooked up enough times to keep us going back, I wish I was smarter about it and kept records of time, tide & moon etc but live and learn.

Hillarity can produce some awesome fish if you persist, I have been spooled there a couple of times on a 651 Alvey with 1000 yds of 30lb on a 12 foot 10 wrap snyderglas custom. Probably by the rays that are bloody HUGE. Great fun for a severe case of the shakes.

Watch the cats ! they take your bait !

does it matter where you go along the south wall? between the point and where the footpath ends on the south wall
