First hand info
Friend was there surfing with this person, about 100m away.
Wasn't a good scene from the sound of it.
Sorry to hear again.

Rescue chopper went down there, done a few laps and went back to Jandakot, so maybe he's not too bad.

Chopper has just gone back down and landed at Peel Health Campus, so for what ever reason they didn't pick him up before, it looks like they are now.

Lets hope he makes it ok
One of the people at the scene reported that there was a lot of fish in the water at the time, one of the warning signs given about dangerous water is if there is a lot of fish schooling in the area it could attract predators.
Lets hope that the guy is ok and if the report is correct that he lost a leg and they recovered it they may be able to save it.

Dunno if anyone else saw it
Dunno if anyone else saw it but I was watching the face of the young female ambo as they had got him into the Ambulance and she turned and blew out a visible lungful of air through puffed cheeks. Sent a chill up my spine and I'll never forget the look on her face and I hope she gets the trauma counselling she is going to need.

All to easily we forget
It's all to easy to forget that these brave ambos are humans, and as such are exposed to things that ,hopefully, 99% of us will never experience.
These people need and should get all the support that is available to help them deal with what traumatic events they must face on a regular basis.
They should also get the much earned respect from our society, it makes me infuriated when I read in the paper that ambos have been attacked when attending call outs to hurt people at large events.
What you have described jackfront is a typical example of being confronted with a most traumatic sight that thankfully most of us don't have to confront and carryout a duty, and I repeat they are human the same as most of us.
God bless them.

My old man is a career firey
My old man is a career firey about to retire. I remember times when Dad got home from a shift and would look shellshocked for a couple of days. He'd never talk about it and we'd never ask and if it wasn't for the their chaplain and support those guys have for each other I'm sure he'd be a mess by now.
He reckons the worst part of the job was rolling out to a serious crash when the car matched the description of one of his kid's.

Apparently fisheries have
Apparently fisheries have hooked up a decent size shark in the area and can’t get it onboard and going to drown it ( don’t they have guns ? ) according to the radio report ..

Yeah mate it's a no win
Yeah mate it's a no win situation for all involved hope he recovers. I see the young bloke that had his arms ripped off down in Esperance down the beach while walking my dog from time to time always makes me feel sick inside. Glad i got most of my surfing done while there weren't so many around.

Know Ben and his family well
Tight family and tough as nails.
Have to admit it was tough to learn it was someone you know, and it DID change my opinion about culling the shark

Please read this with an open mind
This is a good read if read with an open mind. I agree that the action of taking out the shark that was hanging around in the are where the attach happened needed to be done, if only to appease the public.

Interesting read. I wasn't aware drum lines were so actively used elsewhere in the world.
With the one in Falcon, either the shark was hanging around or there were more than one.
I support a regulated fishery to provide research on numbers.
