A lot of money for a reel to be sat in a display case...cos you wouldnt realy want to use it!

You would want to be a serious collector

I was chasing a Mark II Seamartin at one stage, but the prices were just not right.

ive got one if you like the price colin ... ive not used it for a fair while ... but i can say that youll never find a reel that can cast as far with a few mods and they are a real winch :)

i loaded mine with 20lb braid for salmon fishing on a 12foot ozflex .. was funny watching other fisherman sitting on the beach with salmon out of range and then me waltzing down and belting a 50g twisty out of sight into them :)

The Seamartin's design is quite amazing. The ree's line pick-up system was designed a long time ago, but you won't find much better technology for dealing with modern braid lines.

they lay line  like no other reel (very good) but the factory drag is hopeless as my mates found out with big sharks up steep point.............locks up=twang/ping

basicaly half an alvey and half a spinner.........good set and forget reel at nite without having to worry about line lay issues but u must use  qaulity swivels

u need to fit upgraded drag or make a oiled leather drag washer yrself

good for distance casting with better than 1 to 1 retrive....wouldnt use it to chuck lures though......emblem pro would be better choice

yeah i agree 499 but with the right mods they are an excelent casting reel ... i had 2 of them at one point .. with the old one i put the spool on a lathe and tapered the inner shaft so the line lay was like a pyramid then ground back the top lip to suit . if you held the reel upside down the line would spiral off with no friction on the line around it and none on the spool .. didnt affect the capacity or the reel itself.  and it kept me occupied for ages casting and re shaping till i got it right :)

sea martin

Mon, 2010-01-18 07:52

My grand father gave me a sea martin reel brand new in the box with spare parts and manual all in perfect condition. I was goin to use it its dated 1960 but my pop passed away recently, he reckoned he had another one witch he used and they are great for big fish.
