Choppers have been searching the area off Point Peron and the Southwest corner of garden Island all afternoon, not seeing anything in the media though.

It’s actually
Horrible area there. Always sloppy ( short and sharp). Same area years ago where that guy had white attack dingy, he went to hit it with oar and fell in , boat drifted away. He had to swim back in. I remember seeing him in shock at ramp. Very lucky man. I hope they find person safe.

Not looking good at this stage.
EPIRB was found about 9.30 last night.
Yak and paddle both located as well.
Hope for the best, but signs aren't looking promising.

Steve used to sail with us.
Steve used to sail with us. He was very safety conscious and had his head screwed on. Hoping for the best result though the conditions will make it tough.

A lesson for us all?
This is an extract from the article in the West Australia...............
“Being a personal locator beacon it’s not entirely designed for the marine environment, so it doesn’t float upright in the same way as a marine EPIRB would do,” he said.
“That may account for why the signal was patchy and was only detected at around 11am and then later on after 7pm yesterday and not in between times.”
I was thinking of getting a PLB for the tinny, but now will be buying a proper EPIRB instead.
Here's hoping that he will be found safe and sound.

Very sound advice
Despite all the boats out there yesterday afternoon the signal from the Plb was so faint and so intermittent it was not found for hours ......proper Epirb the only way to go despite the larger size.....add to that most plbs battery life is only 24 hours at best ....some real lessons here but again my thoughts go out to the relatives and friends of the missing man

Def gree on the EPIRB being
Def gree on the EPIRB being the primary beacon but despite its limitations I wouldn't discourage carrying a PLB on one's body in case the worst happens and you end up in the drink with at least something to alert sea rescue.
Not looking good especially to have been be separated from a kayak and it must be a wretched time for the family.

I'm going for a tailor session behind Garden Island shortly,so will keep my eyes open around the reefs.
Yes-not looking good.
Not sure about the Media reports, but last night it said that he was not wearing a life jacket?
That has to be very worrying, if true, long time to be in the water.

I used to sail with Steve.
I used to sail with Steve. This is truely disturbing and is so sad for his family and the family of the child.
He was such a normal bloke. Didn't want attention, just did his stuff and kept going. Could tell a great story at 0200 in the morning when you were on watch.
Sad to lose the nice bloke I knew though good to see another rock spider off the face of the planet...
