Salmon for deep drop?

anyone used salmon as deep drop baits? Any good?
also anyone know how far up the coast they are at the moment? Seen a couple of reports they’re still a fair way east of Albany...

Trolled around Breaksea last
Trolled around Breaksea last weekend & didn't see any, only hooked small benito & 1 decent bluefin about 10kg.
