Rod Repairs

Does anyone know a decent, reasonably priced rod repair service?  I broke the tip off my Starlo Classix Shore Spin 902 quite recently and I'm looking for somewhere to get it repaired.  Obviously the rod is only worth $120, so need to weigh up whether it's worth bothering...

I had a quick look using the forum search function and there was one guy who seemed to be highly recommended - however it appears he's now unavailable.

If not, could anyone recommend a similar rod as a replacement... wouldn't want to spend much more than $200.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know who could repair

I don't know who could repair a broken tip but I do know the rod will never be the same no matter how good the repair is. I had the same rod for awhile (until the tip also broke due to operator stupidity) & upgraded to the FWA Extreme 6-10kg 9ft. Bloody good rod for the money & easily out performs the Starlo in every way. The extra cast weight is particularly handy if you want to peg 55g twistys or 2oz richters at the salmon this season. Comes in at a little under $200 & worth every penny.

what about distance? is Busselton out of the way ??

There is a guy here in Busselton who 'makes' rods from blanks

I've seen some of his finished rods and they look like factory made but I'm told with better specifications

He does repairs - but I believe a new tip would be too unrealistic

As flangies asked, It depends

As flangies asked, It depends how much you lost off the tip, Either way you cant really repair it, but you can simply put a new tip on it. Any tackle shop will have one just take it in to get the right fit, I should think $10 would get you a new one. Simply use hot glue to fix it

Cheers guys, couple of inches off the top!

Think I might just cut my losses and look into buying a new rod.  Where can I procure an FWA extreme?

Oceanside Tackle & Marine O'Connor (forum sponsor will give you discount), FWA Pro Tackle Malaga, or I got mine from Bluewater in Morley. I'm sure there's other places that stock them to.

they are an easy repair

I could do it for you no worries. It might mean moving the first guide a bit to accomodate a new tip. But as it is a 2 piece current model Shimano rod, have you thought of ordering a new complete tip. Try one of your local reputable tackle shops..

Complete angler repaired my

Complete angler repaired my envy - only cost about 70 bucks to replace top guide (with a good one) and move the guide below it down to balance the spacing a bit. Thought that was pretty reasonable.

The rod did change though, I went from using it on bream to now bouncing plastics for shallow demersals. Still an awesome rod!!

 While it'll not feel exactly

Fri, 2015-03-13 21:36

While it'll not feel exactly the same, for a couple of inches it may not make a lot of diff to you. In your place I will clean the end up by filing gently and glue a new tip without worrying about shifting any guides. It may look a bit odd but I don't think you'll lose much distance. then you buy Ekul's FWA rod for $70. This way you have a better 9' rod and your Starlo is then a spare. It's not worth spending the bucks on your Starlo, better quality rods out there. Put all your gold coins into a jar every day/week and by Xmas you'll be able to buy yourself a decent rod.
