Retiring lures to the pool room

Just wondering what others think about retiring lures that have served you well. I always get to a point after catching a few good fish on a lure where I don't really want to use it incase I loose it. Does that happen to anyone else?

yeah I have thought about
yeah I have thought about this myself, Especially Macky and Barra Lures , My thoughts were to mount them on a frame. Better still retire them after they have got a good fish, and write in the capture details under the Lure. eg, date, weight, location. It would make interesting reading for others as well.

Yeah, love seein battle
Yeah, love seein battle scarred lures with masses of teeth gouges, distorted rings and straightened hooks that have stories linked. I had one (only teeth marks)and used it again in exy because I know it worked and lost it, spewin
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Have a Marlin lure purched in display case.
The lure was the one which we caught and landed our first Marlin with. It has travelled only a few km and was retired to a showcase of the capture. A Fish West lure made in Gero.

I lose them chasing that 1 more. Some off the barra fishing I do it might be the only color/lure that will catch that day!

Drag them till they swim no more
they're only worthy if they have lost they're swimming ability. Only place for them if they can still swim is in the water!!

I have three in the pool
I have three in the pool room.
One Cubera popper that is absolutely destroyed from having caught over 20 GTs, many red bass and a horse YFT around the 50kg mark.
One smith jig that is bent in the middle on a 45 degree angle from an unidentified monster at Kiribati.
One Fisherman Andaman jig that got almost all the paint stripped off it and is full of tooth gouges from a mad session on Dogtooth at Eiao.
Those three lures have earned their place in the pool room. The rest have to fight another day!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Retiring a few to the pool
Retiring a few to the pool room might actually allow a few others out to play. The favourites generally get used till they are lost or allowed to retire. There's nothing sadder than losing your fav lure to a big fish... Actually there is, losing it to a snag!

Had a new favourite recently
Had a new favourite recently that caught a heap of fish down at Walpole- bream, flathead, herring, tailor, salmon, whiting, baby pinkies... also hooked myself for the first time and had to go to Denmark hospital to get it out. Stripped down more than once to retrieve it from a snag aswell. Went for a cast on the river after getting back, looked at my double uni knot and thought 'Hmm its getting a bit ratty, should re-tie that...soon"</p><p>About 2 casts later it failed and my little lure went flying out into the river. Sad day.
