Releasing fish when Gut hooked

he guys,
anyone know what the best thing to do is when you gut hook a fish? Gut hooked a good dhu today but was already at quota. Hooked with gang hooks as I was anchored trying to catch pinkies. If I tried to get hooks out probably would of just fucked him up so decided to cut the line at the top hook. Thought it could give him a fighting chance. Really disappoints me when this happens just feels so wasted. Any thoughts or advice would be good. Cheers

Normally go home
yeah I do normally go home but took a mate out and had a couple dhus within first half hour. Don't normally fish with gangs unless I have a floating bait out but just couldn't get away from the silver wrasse! Maybe il change to circle hooks no matter what I'm fishing for if it's going to improve my chances of not gut hooking. Just wondering wether it's worth trying to get the hooks out or just leaving them. Either way probably not good chance of survival

You done the right thing, hopefully the hooks just rust away over time.

Leave them in and release
have caught both dhuies and snapper with hook remnants in the gut.....they dissolve quite quickly, you do way more damage trying to remove

Last resort
Last resort , cut the line close as you can to the hook, I feel it gives them the best chance to survive.
