Overcharging
Submitted by Hairyone on Thu, 2017-04-27 07:03
Gday,
As soon as i turned on my Lowrance sounder and chartplotter last weekend an alarm went off saying high voltage 14v......My motor is a 60hp 4 stroke Yahama with about 60hrs on it. About 2014 model I think.
Any ideas?.....The alarms both went off after I hit the enter buttons and didnt come back on.......anything to worry about?
Cheers

Most alternators charge at 13.8v
so close to 14v, Even so I would be tempted to have the voltage regulator (assuming this motor is fitted with one) replaced rather than risk the electronics

I think most charge over 14V
I think most charge over 14V as you wont get a full charge in at 13.8 or it will be very slow to top up.
Certainly worth getting the voltage checked but both my Suzukis DF's charge at 14.2V and my Hilux as well and 14.7 isnt uncommon.
My Ctek chargers also push over 14 on "normal wet" battery settings.
