Orange as a boat colour
Hey guys
For the past 2 years I've been rebuilding a Regent Viscount (similar to Baron Sportsman). The original hull colour was orange and has subsequently been painted white. As part of the rebuild I will be sanding back and repainting. My question is....is painting the side of your boat from the gunnels down orange a bad move? Ie from a re-sale perspective but also by bringing attention to yourself on the water.
From a safety perspective I imagine orange (air-sea orange to be exact) would be quite good. An being an older hull (about 1978) it would match the retro nature of the boat.
Obviously white is the most typical choice and I may end up doing that, which is what the wife would prefer. But I reckon orange suits that style.
Any opinions, friendly or otherwise are welcome.
I did then the best that I knew how. When I knew better, I did better.

Orange for sure
Orange for sure if it is the origional colour. White is the easiest colour to maintain but i love to see refurbished old hulls and it will look Retro in Orange. Would be great to see some photos after you have finished cheers Ace

Painting the underside of
Painting the underside of your boat orange would be a good move from a safety side of things because a white hull is the same as a breaking wave.

There is an old Orange Glasscraft which launches at Ocean Reef during the whites and it look schmick as far as I am concerned. Original gelcoat as well so I am told.

Float
I'll post photos once she's completed. Gotta make sure she doesn't sink when I first launch her. I'm pretty confident but dumber things have happened.

MY first boat was an ole
MY first boat was an ole 18' glasscraft with an orange hull.
I liked the look back then and still do now, although red/orange is the worst in the spectrum for colour-fastness. (fades quickest.)
Altho I like the orange, you could make a statement and paint her Dockers Purple like my current one!![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/teeth_smile.gif)
Go Dockers - looking forward to the start of the season..

Purple
If I painted it purple I would have to sink it myself.

FULLY SIC
I just brought myself an orange center console last month and love it.
Might be a bit harder to sell down the track, but still a bunch of people that enjoy being that little bit different..

Boring white
Ended up going for boring white. Really wanted orange but went for the conservative option. Photos to come later.
