Okuma SOLTERRA SLR-15CS Overhead Reel ??

Guys,
Anyone have experience with these little guys, or comments on them. Appear to have a high retreival ratio and at around 600 grams could be possible a consideration for sub 100m bottom bouncing?
Feed back appreciated!

Yeah aqua
That's my first perception. I'd be interested to see what their strike drag potential is.

Ive got one
Very happy with it. smooth as silk to retrieve but no match for deep water bottom bouncing. I took it up to exmouth with me and took 5 turns of the handle to move the same as one turn of Tim's reel. Made deep water a pain. Shallow around the 40's and 50's where I do 90% of my fishing it is a great reel.
Cheers

Thanks Andy...questions?
But with a 6.0 ratio should the reverse be the case?
What was Tim using Andy?
How was the drag at strike?
When you say deep, how deep mate?

Reel
Was using a Torque 200 Colin and we were out in the 100's.
The Solterra looks like a nice reel from what I saw of Andy's in action and the one I had a play with in the Tackle Shack the other week as well.
Different reel completely from the Torque but looks like it should do what you want Colin.
Only thing will be the high gearing and heavy sinkers and how that works out for you as not all high gear reels suit bottom bouncing.

Thanks Tim!
I was attracted to the weight (would be nice atop a T Curve 200 trigger I thought) and the Tyrnos like setting.
As for high ratios, well now, that opens up a lot. Given that it's the rod that does the work, why have dual ratios anyway? As for heavy sinkers, perhaps the winch and wind rule applies?
Even in 60m, with a (approx) 3:1 ratio of the 350 GTI I'm using, it's a slow retreive when there's nothing on but two hooks and a medium sized snapper weight.
I'd still like to load one up and spring weight the strike drag and see how uncompromised the free spool attribute is.

Sorry mine's a 15L
which has a 4.2:1 retrieve ratio.
Saw the Solterra name and assumed it was the same reel.
Oooops!

Yep dont recon i would use
Yep dont recon i would use it for bottom bouncing,Give it the tension test in the shop i thought the drag press was aarrrr yep.Need some serious drag to get them off the bottom and them on Arrrr..but this does depend on the Species on the hook.

Did you tension the drag first?
Or just hit the strike they had it set at in the shop?
For me it certainly can lock up, but takes a bit of adjusting so you get a big amount of drag at overstrike.
For me it gets most if not all metro fish off the bottom, but I only fish up to 30lb so its not going to be suitable for skull-dragging with higher PE lines.

Hi retrieve, unless you need
Hi retrieve, unless you need it for lures, is REALLY overrated.
I have the hi-speed saltist where I should have the slower one and just wind faster where possible, and slower when I can't and when you can't you really can't!

Yeah fair enough Till. As we do most of our fishing in <= 65m, and don't intend on doing any skull dragging, and tend to fish in slow drifts or at anchor (hence) lighter weights, I see this reel as a possible good option.
I just want to make sure there is enough Drag to control.
