Hi Guys
I am reletively new to offshore fishing and looking to get started into some pinkies and sambos and other demersal species l will mainly just be drifting around with paternoster style rigs and maybe dropping some soft plastics down. What type of spin reel and rod would you recommend for this type of fishing my budget is $200 not including line what type of line is better for this type of fishing? Also l want to stay light as possible but it can still handle sambos?
Thanks

Big dollars
i won't spend if not required so I grabbed a penn spin fisher ssv 4500 for the wifey and a 5500 on a couple of shimano maikuro 575 heavy spin rods. Basically $270 for each outfit without the braid. I use for bottom bouncing and plakkies. Found the ssv s to be solid unit with no issues over the last couple of years. As the the maikuro's, they do what I require of them and beat s holding a broomestick. Enjoy it out there!

Check out Alan Hawks website for info on reels.
Can be heavy reading through some of it but he has just released the what reel 2017 page. He is highly regarded and rates the daiwa bg very highly for a budget reel.
