Occy Shred?
Submitted by Mick C on Wed, 2017-03-29 21:19
We have been offered a good supply of octopus “waste” from a local professional licence holder. He looked at our products in the tackle shops that he delivers to, and wondered if we would be interested.
Occy shred, in 1kg vacuum sealed lots, and 0.5kg cleaned heads might have market acceptance? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Mick

Is this shredded Occy, ie for berley or heads.
From the description it sounds like the berley idea and personally I think that would be the "bomb" off all berley's for demersals, especially if mixed in with some Mulie shreds.
Would love to try that a little at our whiting spots of from the Bouvard's.

Shredded occy for burly and cleaned heads for bait. Getting 20kg delivered today so will run some tests and see what the products look like. Will post some images when done. Thanks. Mick

Hi Mick, Yep, as Neels says, mixed with mulie or tuna shred, would be the bomb I'd think.

Freezer Space
Thanks mate, not sure we would have enough freezer space for all your stuff though.
We are not allowed to sell recreationally caught products. Happy to shred them for you if you are ever up this way.

Fisheries Rules
The rule is that you can't use recreationally caught fish etc for commercial gain. Given that we are talking about a waste product that is thrown back or, in the case of frames, discarded to landfill it seems strange that we are not allowed to recycle. I reckon I could have made a case to allow it and seek a ruling but in the end we can obtain the stuff commercially fairly cheaply so I let it go. As per a previous post, we will shred for people for no charge as long as they follow our rules. I do appreciate your thought though. Cheers. Mick

Good idea
Mick, considering how many species love squid and occy (LJ included! Lol), I reckon it will be a great product!
