Just purchased a new boat, iam currently in the market for a sounder/plotter. has anyone had any experience with the northstar m84 unit? if so what are your thoughts and opinions? any info would be greatly appreaciated.
wouldnt mind your opinion on other units with a price range of about 2.5-3k
thanks

wouldnt bother personally,
wouldnt bother personally, use the search bar for the site and you will get some better options, furuno sounder and maybe lowrance gps or look at the new lowrance hd units.
the northstar only runs a cmap and has no where near the detail that the navionics does.
i actually have one of the 12inch navman units in my boat when i got it, but only use it as a back up, if i knew i could get a few bucks for it i would sell it, but these days no one wants them.

for the $ you are looking at
for the $ you are looking at i would look at seperate units , maybe a furuno 620 and a nice gps to go with it, you should be able to get a good setup for that price

Seperate!
You got rid of the floating spa mate LOL
Good info offered, definatly purchase seperate units. I prefer the Furuno sounder over Navman. The Furuno FCV620 is a great sounder and I put that and a Navman Tracker plotter/gps (I like their plotters) on my boat upnorth and works well!

navman
had a northstar or navman as they used to be on my old boat and my old man has one on his boat aswell. would never touch another one personally. very easy to use but continually played up and i lost over 300 waypoints (dont worry the good ones written down) to boot... it was sent away 3 times and i even recieved a brand new unit but either navman dont like me or yeh... old man has just the sounder unit on his tub that i use now and its just a backup incase the new lowrance hds7 fails which i cant see happening... rate them very highly. but thats just my opinion
