I would strongly suggest a Talica 12 (single speed), pe5 braid, and something like a Daiwa saltist hyper rod. The talica’s are a bulletproof reel with plenty of stopping power. The guys we fish with when heading north, pretty much all have one.
Tyrnos 30 loaded with at least pe5 and a 15-24kg stick will stop most things up there. Depends what style of botton bouncing you want to do? Jigs or bait?
not a fan of over heads so id go a saragosa 10000 with 50lb quality braid, rod of your choice and budget but i am also a fan of the diawa saltist hypers like scano has suggested, can use to troll as well
Talica 12 2 speed loaded with pe6 , mated to demon blood rod for the deeper work. Shallow stuff ( less than 20 m ) a TLD 5 with pe2 on an ugly stick bait caster , good for shits and giggles . Penn affinity 150 running 15 lb on a super whippy rod for chucking metals around for Bonito for bait - this one is the most fun ....:)
All good recommendations here. Silver fox and gilly are on the money. Talica 12 (I prefer single speed tho)matched with demon blood. Good rods at a reasonable price
As for spin I run saragosa 10k again with demon blood
cheers for the info guys! was mainly thinking bait as havent had much luck with jigging. keen to get into the jigging though, what sort of jigs are the go up there?
Get yourself a deep jig 300 and match it with a 18-20k sized reel loaded with 80lb for the monsters up there. Worked off Exmouth anyway, gota beat the sharks
Get a 25kg overhead ugly stik, TLD 50 2 speed with 25kilo line of your choice, will stop just about everything and will cost you half what you would pay for anything else.
i prefera spin outfit myself , go a 20k/ 25k Saragosa (10k is a bitch for winding lead with the higher gear ratio) and a t Curve 200 spin with 60-80lb braid on another note is that you Shaun? (my cousin i think)
Way more power with an overhead compare with spin. Talica 12 singel speed (2 speed not as good IMO) with an upgraded handle (standard handle arm is too short, get a longer handle for much more pleasant experience) and run the spool no more than 60% full to get the right retrieve ratio.....perfect.
