Nikon D5000

G'day guys
After seeing some awesome photo's on here lately I've decided to take the plunge and buy myself a decent DSLR. I've got my mind set on a Nikon D5000 as it also take HD video. Just wondering if anyone has one or had any experience with one. To me it seem like a pretty well featured unit.
Cheers Mick

DSLR's
im a canon man myself
much of a muchness really
depending on what sort of photography your going to do dont get too held up on the saying "more mega pixles are better". 10 meg or 15 meg does not really make any difference unless your going to be printing billboards.
Most SLR's come with an option on lenses for starter packs. 18mm-55mm with f4.6-f22 or something like that is a good sarter lense. Try get one with IS (image stabiliser) and AF (auto focus)
Only other thing i would reccomend for starters too is a circular polariser and a good soft case for your camera
If you get the option for a second lense then look at something like a 70-200mm with IS and AF. This will be better for any longer distance zoom shots.
Plenty of info on the net mate

IS
Just a word of caution..
IS is great when it works !
On 3 of my Canon L series lenses the IS has packed in.
Still works (at times) but more often than not throws up an ERR message and locks up the camera..
Needless to say IS is always switched off...
As for the HD video, if it's anything like in the Canon 5dmk2 it will be brilliant !

i doubt it will be the
i doubt it will be the 5dmmk2 is a full frame camera after all
i have never had trouble with my IS, reccomend it for any "zoom work" or hand held shutter speeds less than 1/400

Cheers for the feedback
Cheers for the feedback guys. Looks like I'll have a new camera tomorrow. Just need to get my head around all the tech jargon. Spent many hours pouring over info on the net and my head hurts. Might need to get another beer. The camera comes with those lenses in the kit Brad. Should cover most bases for starters anyway. Another question do you guys use an external flash unit or just the pop up type?
Cheers Mick

I agree with Brad.
You wont go wrong with either a Nikon or Canon. I personally use Nikon and I think they are great, it is what you are used to, a bit like the pc/mac debate.
