New to Perth
Submitted by Puku on Mon, 2018-10-29 14:01
Hello All
I have recently relocated from Cairns and having done loads of fishing in and around the great waters off Cairns and Cook town, I am looking at getting into some of the fishing around Perth and especially the FADS where I might find some similar species to what I was used to up there, obviously the further North I go I realise I will find similar locations.
I am however interested in someone assisting me with ideas and or spots (esp. coordinates of the FADS) I can only seem to find the last co-ordinate and that was in 2016 and it was mentioned on a site that they have moved??
Please help me out and send me a note esp. if I can tag along and or take you with me :):)
Thanks
Puku

Hey mate,
fads are out on same marks or thereabouts every year (they’re shipping hazards so they are marked on charts and don’t get moved often) they drift a bit or some dikhead ties off on them and drags them (maybe)...PGFC put them in and out every summer/winter. Every now and then one breaks loose or gets damaged and might not be there when you get there but it’s generally pretty well reported on fishing forums etc.
the closest one for me is the Hillarys fad and it’s been there every time I’ve gone looking for it and within 100m of the navionics chart.
They do hold fish but the Dollys are small compared to up north. Never had one on the troll but have had luck casting at the schools.
Looooooong way to go so take your deep drop gear or better still some teasers and big skirts...matty from on here won the marlin cup in a 20ft boat out there a couple of years back and gilly and I raised a small one out there in a 18ft, you don’t need a big boat if it’s a capable one, you’re capable and you pick your weather/day
welcome to Perth waters....you’ll work pretty hard initially but the fish are there once you find them.

Hey
Mate best way to start is to buy the navionics app and it pretty much has everything you need like most wreck locations fad GPS coordinates etc etc for now though I'd start looking at Gemini wreck for salvos if you are north and the barge wrecks of rotto if your more south good luck mate and welcome to WA

Heaps of us on here out of
Heaps of us on here out of mandarie and OR areas, like Travis says most happy to go out in a two or three boat convoy with ya Puka particularly if you’re venturing wide for the first time.
Im always keen for a decky spot...
as Travis said give Gemini a crack out of mandarie - nearly always holds small to med size sambos. It’s a little off the chart marks but it’s close enough to find with ya sounder. Hold yourself with the motor over it...float a unweighted/lightly weighted bait down or jig on it....10-20lb gear is good fun....
