New FW Introduction

Hi all, Name's Stephen, which only my mother uses, all call me "Devo", not from Deviate but from school mates modifying last name which has stuck. I became a member of FW some months back and was waiting for a decent catch to go with my introduction, but have hit a dry spell and have nothing to brag about lately. I've fished various locations around Aussie in the last 40 years (yes nearly old enough for the grumpy old mans club), including Geelong area in Vic, Narooma & Bermigui in NSW, Darwin, Steep Point and Perth area to name a few. Now settled last 10 years in WA, Port Kennedy. I am a member of MBFC but never around for most comp's due to work commitments. I have had trouble like most to crack the Perth area fishing codes but have a reasonable catch success mid year with Pinkies on the 5 fathom with earlier mornings and late arvo/nights. My next adventure is taking by boat over to the Abrolhos Island for 2 or 3 nights, I am fairly well prepared and have read every article I can find on the issue. At this stage I have penciled in early April before Easter weekend to be ready for a good break in the weather before heading off. I believe there is a WAFA Helco comp at the island between the 5th & 11th of April, hope this doesn't make it had to find a mooring area. I am hoping to meet a few FW members as I work various rosters and fish alone due to may Son now 15 and sadly has lost interest and original fishing buddies not always available. Also keeping my eyes peeled if any other boats going to the Abrolhos Island early April. A couple photo's of pink's caught on the five, My son will still fish when he knows there on and soft drink, chips and tim tams loaded. Cheers, Devo.

Hey Mate

welcome and good on you, if I had to wait for a good catch before my intro, I'd still be waiting. Got the same issue with my son, he has lost interest. Dont sweat it, they come back when they hit the early 20's

Kids will come back, at 15 I couldn't wait for my olds to bugger of so I could get my girlfriend over and if she couldn't Or wouldn't come over I'd play guitar as loud as the amp would go. Spose these days it's all inter webs, tinder, social media and gaming around that age?

again, welcome. Nice boat to. And fish!

I'm in the same boat so to speak. Always looking for like mind fella's to fish with, got my own boat but I'm self employed and when got time to go out either weather not to good or no one available. Been meaning to take my boat over to the Abrolhos for a while and would be keen to join you over there on a trip but early April I'm off for a couple of weeks with the family.

If you ever short of someone let me know and if I'm in need of a deckie I'll drop you a message.

How do you find the Goldstar? I have the smaller Ultimate 5300 model and it serves me quite well for the fishing and Diving i do. Thats a couple of nice pinkies that you got there. I wouldnt worry to much about the young fella not wanting to go fishing , mine son is 19 and is just starting to come again with his mates fishing and I find out the real stories of what they get up to out and about with drinking and girls. Brings back alot of old memories and I cherish the time we spend together.  Lifes good

Hi cocokye, My Goldstar is

Wed, 2014-03-12 10:13

Hi cocokye,
My Goldstar is the 6.8m with 200 4s Yammy, apparently they are all Jackman hulls. I love the deck and cabin space, its a great camper, fish and dive platform. I find that it occasionally rolls when running along swell or slight angle to swell and has dug in on the odd time depending on the weather conditions, I have learnt how to operate better over time and it would be an average handling boat without the trim tabs, it does bang in rough weather like most tinnies but with trim tabs partially down a softer ride comes at cost of higher fuel consumption. The Excalibur series has 100mm higher sides and in my opinion the floor and the cabin is a few inches to high making it a little top heavy, when at rest the floor pitch is slightly forward which is a pain for washing decks unless motoring. The boat does have many good features and I'm happy with it for now. Also have the 3.9m Stacer tinnie, best boat I have ever owned, its now 19 years old, motor 4 years old. future plans will be to unload both and by 5m center consol.

Welcome mate. Good work on cacthing the pinkies, you have done better than me but probably put more time in than me. I'm in a pile of "to be considered" for the waiting list at MBFC and hopefully will get a crack at a membership next year so I may catch you done there one day.

Cheers.. JJ

Thu, 2014-03-13 15:13

Gedday Devo

I too work rosters and often struggle with getting the teenagers out of bed to come fishing. I live in Mandurah so next time you are looking to get out just PM me and if Im not working I am usually fishing so I willl surely be available.......surely??

Ive got a 465 Trailcraft so its not the big ocean goer but certainly get out past FFB and beyond on good days.

Cheers
