If it's true lets hope there is a photo worthy of the capture.

I dont want pics, I want a
I dont want pics, I want a weight on certified scales. Over 30kg is a good 4-5kg over the limit (a huge margin) is like saying the new worlds tallest person is 3.2m (10'6) or the 100m was run in 8.47s.
If you showed a pic of 25.8kg dhuie, it would be huge, so would this claimed 30kg+ one, but really would you be able to tell for sure it wasnt just a little under 26? Heres the tallest person btw (thats the 25.8 kg equivalent btw).
So really, without a certified (and recognised weight), its would just be a reallly freeaking huuuuge dhufish and is a phenominal effort. Lets not discount that its a giganticly massive fish and incredibly awesome catch, but the 30kg is just such a far out claim, I dont see how it can be taken as realistic. Big claims demand big proof. Hopefully we'll see it if it is such a massive amount over the record as claimed. But then how many times have we seen people claim a big fish was at least 5kg bigger than it was? ;)
If it becomes a state record, that'll be great, but I'll remain just a little skeptical until I see it in print..

Not quite the same Matt
All people walking the world are visible, and sprints are recorded.
Just because we have never caught a dhue that size doesnt mean that they arent there. They might be very wise to have reached that size.
Diving off Rotto in 88 in 30m chasing crays I saw a dhue that I thought was a Qland groper. It was massive and it wasnt until I closed the gap that I realised it was a whopper off a dhu (male with fillaments). Obviously anecdotal because I could only guess, But I have landed (once) about that time a 20k speci and this was gigantic compared with that.
All catches arent recorded like sprints and height, but I am sure there is a behemoth dhu out there after seeing it. Just have to get some proof.

I would like to know the procedure
Of what to do / who to contact if I was to have a record claim? I've had a spangled emperor that was 2cm short of length record but if it had been over I wouldn't have the foggiest who to contact to make the claim legitimate.
Also as far as scales go is there someone in Perth / exmouth / wherever you can contact to use legitimate calibrated scales etc???
I'm sure hlokk, till or someone else on here can enlighten us all as to what to do if that grandeur marlin ever jumps in our boat off the back of rotto :P

Without checking,
I'm pretty sure to actually hold any fishing record, you have to be a member of a fishing club.
I'm also looking forward to any picture of this dhu

Found this
First of all there are different records that can be claimed around Australia and the world. First of all there are the ANSA records (Australian National Sport Fishing Association). To claim one of these records you must be a member or a member of an affiliated club. They have a points system with a scale of difficulty depending on the species. I am not going to go into this, if you are a member or you are thinking of joining a club it will be explained to you. So what do you do if you are just an average citizen out there and do not belong to a club. Well first of all there is the AAA (Australian Anglers Association) and they have state and national records.
The AAA has record fish captures that are open to anyone, visitor or resident to WA. They have a web site http://www.aaawa.iinet.au/ and this (if you have access to the net), should be your first port of call. There are lists of all the species and their record capture weight. Alternately give them a ring on 9403 7383 to find out if you are eligible for a claim.
Now for the big one. The International Game Fishing Association (IGFA). This is where you go when you have caught a world record. This is a little more complicated but well worth the effort because if you have the all tackle world record you will be listed in the Guinness Book of Records. This is very dear to me as I hold one and I can remember back in 1985 when I caught it and if it was not for the help of Hal Harvey at Bluewater Tackle I would probably not have claimed it. These records are the same as AAA and open to all and if you have followed the rules above you are well on your way to claiming this one as well.
There are many rules on line, leaders, backing etc and you are not allowed to use wire. They also have records for fly fisherman and all the rules are available off their website www.igfa.org/records.asp . From the time you hook the fish you are the only person allowed to handle rod and reel. You are allowed help with gaffing or landing the fish. If the rod brakes your record will be disallowed and if the fish is mutilated by shark, propeller, etc. it will also be disqualified. There are many more rules which are designed to keep everything ethical. There are two records that you can apply for. The first is the All Tackle World Records which are the largest of any species caught anywhere in the world on any line class up to 130lb or 60kg; anything heavier than this will not be considered. Then there are the line class world records which are the biggest fish caught on that kg breaking strain and the categories are in kilos 1,2,3,4,6,8,10,15,24,37and 60, and when you claim your record you must send a line sample to them to be tested. If I remember rightly I sent about 100 meters. Not only does it have to be weighed on registered scales it also has to be weighed by an official weigh master; that is, someone qualified to use them e.g. a butcher. You will need a witness to the capture and the same photos as you needed for the AAA claim and once more, the more images you send the better it is going to be for you. You have three months from the time of capture to get your claim to IGFA in the USA which is plenty of time and if you are a member it will cost you $25 US and a non-member $50.

Old pic
An old mate has a pic of one taken some 60-70 years back, shows a dhuey hanging off the railing on a front verandah of a house with the tail just touching the ground. By my estimate it would have been something like 5 ---5 1/2 foot long , converts to around 1.6 metres at a guess, wouldn't be game to estimate how much it weighed
