Morons on the Upper Swan

I've been fishing the upper swan a bit lately and getting into some great bream but don't know if I will head out again on a long weekend. The amount of absolute fuckwits going well in excess of 10kn was ridiculous and the entire sides of the river were littered with mud and reeds etc that had been dislodged from the banks that were being completely destroyed. Just to top it off I looked up and couldn't believe that there was a boatload of people flying down the river in between Basso and South Guildford with someone on the back in a biscuit. I was secretly wishing they'd come off and get impaled on an underwater snag.

Unfortunately if this keeps up (knowing our State Govt) it will probably get to the point where delicate parts of the river like this will just be banned to boating altogether.

I went for the first time in the river on Saturday arvo with the family.

Are there no speed limits even though it says 5 knot or 8 knot zones on the signs?

There was a few boats all flying through, even whizzing through the little kids at the maylands sailing club regatta.

I was down there a couple of months ago and lots of boaties just have no respect, hooning around like prats. Stay away from the river as much as I can these days.

Pretty common up in this part

Pretty common up in this part of the river unfortunately. First thing you get is the rowing crews sticking as close to the bank as they can, even when they can see you casting lures well out. They seem to get a kick out of stopping the rowers right in front of you & then circling in the tinnys.

After the rowing brigade you get the sensible fishos getting out there. Most respect the speed limit & stick further out from shore until they get to their fishing area.

Around 10am you get the idiots that just want to cruise up & down thinking they are shit hot. These wankers have no respect for the speed limit, usually have a mate hanging over the bow & seem to get a kick out of harassing sensible river users.

The worst I've seen is two absolute tossers that flew past me & several others fishing the Helena River mouth at dusk about 3 years ago. No lights flat strap up the middle of the river when it was almost dark.

River is full of dickheads so I stick to fishing areas where the boaties don't go.

Have to agree

Have to agree too. The lack of water police up river from Maylands has led to a free for all.
Saturday I had a Ski boat hooning around me and others in the 5 knot zone near Sandy Beach.
What made it worse, was every other boat saw them and decided it was open water and proceeded to open their throttles wide.
I didn't have my phone but someone must have complained and the water police finally arrived as they were getting the boat out of the water.
Not sure what happened to them, probably not much.

I got rowers sorted, they did

Mon, 2015-03-02 06:51

I got rowers sorted, they did it to me other day at Ascot. I told em it was bang out of order, if they drag my lure an get hooked I dont give a toss. They get pissed off an threaten to call police if I dont get out of their way. So I jsut offer to dial number for em... an recast my line on top of them.

(little tip, its amazingly good practice for targeting reed banks an pylons n stuff :). You dont try to hit them obviosuly, but getting as close to their  boat as possible, is really good prac :D

i hate hearing about things

Mon, 2015-03-02 21:35

i hate hearing about things like this and experiencing them first hand more-so. i was fishing in the collie river yesterday when i noticed a fish floating towards me from the other side where some people were fishing further up. figured it wasnt a biggy to begin with, thought maybe it was more than likely a herring that went belly up in their bucket or something. turned out to be a juvenile mulloway about 35-40cm long with its throat cut...effing morons

Rude Rowers.

Tue, 2015-03-03 07:52

A call needs to be made to Guilford Grammar about the rowers. They think they own the river and the older guys in the tinnies fly up and down the river at full speed.

I too have had them come very close to my boat for no reason while I was tied to a tree fishing.  I'm sure this sort of behavour its not what the school wants to portray.

They behave like A##holes and have no repect for speed limits or other river users. Its a very bad example for the young rowers as well.

Next person that sees it should video them speeding and send it to the school, wish I thought of it earlier.

It would be nice to see positive action taken with the public safety in mind.
