I have a 1kw on my Simrad NSS12 and have had a few 10" lowrance. I don't think you will have any hope over 100m.

depth of 1 kw

The 1 kw should read to 500 meters, but it depends on the type of mount, in a position where the transducer is in direct contact with the ocean it should reach this depth, as soon as you start shooting thru a fibreglass hull the story changes depending on type and thickness of hull, make sure you are running in 50 kh frequency as you should get this penetration, in 200 kh you will not . Many factors influence depth penetration of the sonar pulse including currents, suspended materials in the ocean, thermoclines and water temp, go for higher power if you can afford it, in this situation bigger is better, go to the airmar site on the net for full info, the design of the transducer with the number of elements and width of beam are also factors , narrow beam has best depth penetration.

for pauls coment. The 1kw systems struggle even when set up at there best wet face. Saying that if your budget doesnt allow for 2kw+ unit you can still do well in the 300's. I run a 585 to a 50b 9b and even in 470m i can easily spot blue eye but some days its a struggle to get a clear picture. Looking fwd to a more powerful unit soon!!!

You could go with a pair of 1kw SS264 airmar transducers available in mix type from the US then you buy the lead to suit your brand of sounder, this gives you the flexability to change to a different brand sounder without having to change  transducer, just buy a new lead.

I have a pair yet to go out 300m but easily reads @ wot 100+m depth with my FCV587 fantastic images.

To correct Paula 50 khz is actually the wider beam, but does have the best pentration as already stated.

What transducer are you currently running with the Lowrance system?

im not sure what you would achieve with 2x 1Kw transducers?

im not sure about mine as i just asked for the recommended 1Kw transducer at the time, will check out when i get home..

wether i buy an electric reel or not id riding on this feedback lol

cheers guys

I have HDS8 with a pair of SS264 1kw transducers. I dont think that many (if any) members of this forum would deny their capability. I have hit well over 400m with mine BUT will they give you the definition that you need to find fish ? I also am keen to go deep and on the strength of so many members comments about the capability of Furuno have decided to go that way also.

My Bro in law uses a HDS with a 600w transducer and he can see and catch greyband. He is very persistant and works hard when he fishes. I guess the proof is in the pudding and the ability to be able to tweek to get the best out of your sounder can not be under estimated.

to answer your question

to answer your question sirwade they are a pair because one is the 50Khz transducer the other is 200khz. They are a high speed unit mounted through the hull such that they can have the optimum contact with the water without major surgury to the hull. They are in seperate packages to allow larger elements and increase sensitivity.

Okay shortfuse, so in having the standard 1 kw transom mount transducer, I shouldn't expect to receive the same results as cruise control?

Dam.

There are a few transducers

Sat, 2013-11-23 21:37

There are a few transducers that could be said to be "standard" 1Kw transom mount but if it were a Tm260 which is not quite the size of a regular house brick to look at, you could probably expect similar results. I think you will find that the number of elements in the transducer are the same for both when compared the cone angle of the 50Khz is slightly different 19 degrees on the Tm260 the SS264 25 degrees from memory. Should be a label on the cable I.D the transducer and check out airmars website to verify.

Hope that helps

Super Deep!!

Sun, 2013-11-24 07:14

* Shooting through F/G doesnt loose echo power and punch in general!

* "Reading" a depth of 300m/400/500m means "nothing" as you " NEED to have bottom definition & fish ID " to get constant results!

all the transducers 2Kw and higher seemed to be suited to furuno that ive seen

Correct, many guys that are "actually finding" super deep fish " regularly " are using Furuno 2 & 3 KW trannys like myself!
