looking for a donk
Hi all. were still looking for a motor to sit on the back of the swifty. i have looked at a few. but no luck so far. a couple were way too old and a couple you just cant get parts for anymore.
So im just throwing it out there. our budget isnt too high as we need new steering as well and need to rewire the boat properly . Is there anyone that has repowered or going to repower their tub and the old motor is still in good nick. it doesnt matter if its 2 stroke just reliable altho 4 stroke would be better. even if you know of one prefer something from 2000 onwards but not esential. Must also be a long leg i think 22"
The motor will be going on a swiftcraft dominator so anything from a 115 to a 150 i have been told would do the job.
if you can help us out it would be appreciated. either post on here or pm its up to you. we are in mandurah
Thanks Russ and Sandy

Leg length
It's important to work out what you really need. They are either 20" (L) or 25" (XL) or 30" (XXL).
Good luck with your search. There is a dealer in Wangara that regularly has used 4 strokes for sale. Maybe contact these types guys and let them know what you're looking for as something they repower might have what you need.

May be 25 inch one
It’s of a voyager. Pretty sure you may need 20 inch one. Could be wrong. My Luke’s Viking has long leg ( but we built up transom) stop waves coming in back. Little Andy’s is 20 inch on on his swifty no build up. My swifty has 25 inch. Higher transom . Pretty sure dominator needs 20.

with the build up i extended the height of the section between the well at the back and the deck in that area that dips down using 316 stainless and packed with heat proof foam sheeting

Will be hard going finding a good second hand 20" long leg. Not alot around as yourve found out. Easier option would be to lenghten your transon to fit a XL leg.

Jacking plate
Have you looked into using a jacking plate to give the transom height you need?

Dominator needs 20" (L)
I fitted an XL to mine, F115a Yamaha. Had to have an alumuminium bracket made up to extend transom height. It would fly with one of those Saltwater series 130 Yamaha 2 strokes. As others have said, getting an L is pretty hard in newer motors, extend transom up to XL and you'll have plenty of choice.

Willy
At bullet boats done my boys . Doesn’t cost that much. Made out of thick ally. Trust me makes huge difference while drifting in seas. Stops waves comeing over the back. But Luke’s got 130 Honda ( heavy motor). Made his sit lower than most.

90hp Yamaha 2 Stroke 20"
Did you see this one that popped up on gumtree?
20" 2009 90hp Yamaha.
www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/osborne-park/boat-accessories-parts/90hp-yamaha-2009-model-/1162929674
A jacking plate is used to mount outboards to when you want to be able to go up or down a couple of holes without having to remove the motor every time. Some people use them to make the difference between 20" and 25" transoms. Every time someone mentions something that might help you, you seem to complain about the cost. There is no free solution to your issue of too short a transom for the readily available motors.
A transom height extension using ply and fibreglass is not a squillion dollar project if you can do a lot of the work yourself.
Bolting a thick ally plate while ugly can do the same thing as well.
