line for stella 10k jigging

what is the line to use? need to fit around 500m of 50lb braid on a stella 10k sw.

wanna use it for deep jiggin.

i know the high gear isnt ideal, but i will cope.

what brands have the thinnest strength to diameter ratio?

cheers.

Always good for a giggle arent you jeffree :) hahahaha

Guessing you got it sorted anyway as didnt hear from you. Which is good if so, as my Saltiga Boat Braid PE4 was all spoken for already. Certain reels of mine and my friends do and will look oh so nice with the rainbow colours gracing its spools :P

Daiwa Saltiga Boat Braid is great stuff and way cheaper than any other braid of similar quality.

Pe4 actually breaks at 68lb

+ 2 for the boat braid

Tue, 2012-06-19 18:21

you can buy bulk spools of 1800m at nearly the cost of purchasing 300m locally.

i always shop local wherever possible but when it comes to strong braid the answer is simple

boat braid in bulk spools from overseas

the only way you can fit 500m

Tue, 2012-06-19 18:56

the only way you can fit 500m on a stella 10k is if you go for saltiga/varivas braid pe3 which is around 48lb..

Take a PE rating as a PE and

Take a PE rating as a PE and fish it at that. Don't get caught up on all the bullshit numbers manufacturers write on the spools. If you have a pe4-60lb, you will never break it if fishing like a #4. Fish the diameter not the breaking strain.

Whats the point of getting strong braid if you're going to baby it? Fish it to the breaking strain. The numbers are available online.

Yeah straight out of the

Tue, 2012-06-19 19:49

Yeah straight out of the packet it may have a higher breaking strain, or you may find a line testing site that suits what you want to hear.. but you have to factor in that those tests are of brand new line that has not even seen water.. I don't know about you but I don't want my line to break at X breaking strain on dry land straight from the packet... I want it to break at X breaking strain 6 months down the track when I'm actually out fishing.

 Thats why you use

Tue, 2012-06-19 20:12

Thats why you use conservative factors ;) Hence running your drag at 1/3rd of the breaking strain, or whatever it is that you feel comfortable running your drag at. 1/3rd of 50lb is less than 1/3rd of 80lb. If you use a different factor, it still works that way. Braid doesnt deteriorate over a year, and it doesnt deteriorate when wet. If it does or it frays or breaks easily, chuck it and buy a better brand. If you're that worried about it, check it in 6 months or run less drag. You're still better off getting strong line.

And whats with all the talk about breaking strain, I thought you said the PE rating was all that mattered ;)

Next time you have reels that need $600 worth of parts to repair, maybe back your drag off a little bit ;)

No I'm saying if one manufacturer states their product breaks at X strain and a website states it breaks at Y.. Which one has no idea what they are talking about?

I don't like your chances jeffree i know mine had no chance of getting 500m of pe5 on it... Just my opininion but I struggled jigging the barges with a 10000sw. Lol your a brave man to try deep dropping with one!

My stella 10k fit 300m of

Tue, 2012-06-19 20:19

My stella 10k fit 300m of YGK PE5 pretty spot on without backing. PE3 will give you 500m, so you'll need PE3 or thinner. PE3 should be 0.285mm (but will vary with brands). Have a look at that Paulus site and see what options there are.

Remember if dropping to near the end of your spool you'll have more drag than at the surface. I would consider a SOM spool though ;) ..... or an overhead...

you will need an aftermarket

Tue, 2012-06-19 22:18

you will need an aftermarket spool, personally I would opt for the SOM. We have the jigging master ones also which are good but I believe the finish quality of the SOM is far superior
