Lancelin to Cervantes Rd news
New contract awarded for Indian Ocean Drive
Transport Minister Simon O’Brien today awarded B & J Catalano Pty Ltd the contract to provide basecourse material for Indian Ocean Drive, part of Lancelin-Cervantes Stage 2.
The $825,000 contract involves the supply, loading, carting and dumping of basecourse material, which will be used to construct approximately 7.5 kilometres of pavement at the project’s southern end.
Mr O’Brien said Lancelin-Cervantes Stage 2 would be built under direct management by Main Roads and involved the construction of a 55 kilometre stretch of road linking the two coastal towns.
“The southern end of the new road will connect with the end of Stage 1 at Ocean Farms Estate, approximately 10 kilometres north of Lancelin,” he said.
“The road follows the coast for a major portion of the route, before connecting with the existing Pinnacles Drive, about 10 kilometres south of Cervantes.”
Once completed in mid-2011, the Indian Ocean Drive will provide a direct link between Perth’s northern suburbs and the coastal town of Dongara, providing improved access to the many coastal communities in between.
The Minister said the contract was scheduled to start this month with work estimated to be completed in January next year.
“The new road is expected to be very popular with tourists, as it is much shorter than the current route via Brand Highway,” Mr O’Brien said.

How long have you known that you'll be moving on
brenz, I dare say it has been talked about for a very long time now and it is as plain as that. Plenty of other people in this state have had to deal with the same issue/s including me. Im sure the road will benefit the towns along the route, as you would expect in most cases. Whether you like it or not it is the cost of developing infrastructure, and Im sure most of those people that have spent considerable sums of money to live in Cervantes and other places would welcome the road. I too, wish sometimes that things could be done differently, however we all know that it dosen't often work that way. So do you own the shack? , what sort of money have you invested in that?

my parents have owned the
my parents have owned the shack for 23 years now and it has nothing to do with the money that was payed for the shack and im not disagreeing with the road benifiting town etc, what im getting at is they did not have to detour a road into wedge it could have been left . the road does not need to go near wedge or grey at all ! my issue is not the road but the road they have put to go into wedge .

Where was the road going to be routed originally
I understand what your saying if it has been detoured from an original planned route, even then the would have to be good reasons why they are doing that I would have thought.

Well I'm glad its finally being done
it will take nearly a hour off of our road trip to go to Leeman.
Brenz I'm sorry that your shack will go but please understand their where people from Jurien Bay to past Knobby Head that ALL had to get rid of their shacks also, unless you where a professional fish man you could still use and didn't have to pull down the shacks. They all felt (our friends) exactly what you and your family are feeling right now, plus they all had to pay $600 dollars a year for rates, rates for taking their rubbish to the tip, cart water and have to keep 20 meters around their shacks with a fire break.
Unfortunately not everybody will be happy with this road going through, but progress is progress, just hope they put more over taking lanes in from just before Lancelin through to Cervantes.

The road is already there
The road is already there and the shacks are obviously not in the way so I dont understand why they want to knock them down. Its all a load of shit. The only people that dont care if they get knocked down are the people that dont own one and if they did they would see things a lot differently. You can still have your road and leave the shacks so whats the problem.

Yes Tapout agree
everybody that I stated earlier all had the same arguement, but the greens (don't you love them) fisheries and Calm all said NO, the enviroment, yes these shackers kept everything clean and tidy. We heard on the grape vine Fisheries couldn't keep a eye on all the shackers, regarding their crays/fish catches, so the nail in the coffin for all shackers from Jurien to literally Geraldton. Some families had their shacks for over 40yrs, yet the professional fisherman still have their shacks (some nice houses) from Leeman north to Clearwater I think. To me one out all out.
