40 year mate of mine has a shack in keogh bay on west lewis island he is in his 70s now still lives in K town but cant get out to the shack any more , he asked me if i wanted to take over ownership / maintance of it , i said i dont think ownership is transferable any more and said best he hand the paper work to his daughter who still lives in K town
my question is are the leases still transferable ? i dont think so and think they havent been transferable for 25 years i hope i havent opened a can off worms as they used to change hands regularly and there has been disputes over ownership of them

Does he have the total share or is he in partnership? As far as I'm aware all he needs to do is inform DARDA and the Shack Committee that you are now involved. Times have changed a lot in regards to duration of leases (You will be surprised) so Id recommend getting onto one of the committee members (Your mate will know who they are) and discuss it with them.
Its hard enough maintaining a shack when you live in the area let alone when you are in Perth - you will need at least 2 weeks every time you visit - first week fixing all of the broken shit, the second week trying to relax whilst looking at the rest of the broken shit you should be fixing instead of drinking piss!
Good luck
PS I relinquished my share in my shack when I left town which was heartbreaking (Especially for the missus and kids) with no paperwork or the like to deal with at all - just hand over the keys.

Agreed
Dont have one and for me i dont think i would. As Daisy has said, fair bit of yakka required. Then again im just happy with a swag on the beach.

Most of the shacks have been
Most of the shacks have been done up as part of the new lease arrangments to meet cyclone regs in the last couple of years. Do you know what the shack number it is? I have a mate with a shack in Keogh Bay so know most of the shacks in the bay.
