Marco Simoncelli dies after crash in Sepang

October 23, 2011

Marco Simoncelli has died after a horrific crash at the Malaysian MotoGP in Sepang, says BBC.

The Malaysian MotoGP was halted four minutes after the race began Sunday when Honda rider Simoncelli fell and was hit by Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

The 24-year-old Simoncelli had his helmet knocked off in the accident, which occurred when the Italian lowsided from his bike at Turn 11.

His bike veered across the track and straight into the path of Edwards and Rossi. The race was immediately red-flagged.

Simoncelli, who was motionless on the track after the impact, had been fourth at the end of lap one.

Edwards also fell but escaped serious injury, while Rossi, on a Ducati, was able to return to the pits.

So terrible. Its going to be hard for Rossi and Edwards to get over that, even though there was absolutely nothing they could do to prevent what happened. Dam shame..

I felt my sotmach go tight

I felt my sotmach go tight and cold as Collin Edwards hit him and saw the crash helmet go flying off.

Rossie and Edwards where very close mates of Marco to make it worse and will hit the pits hard.

Once it was official that he had passed away I just could not get myself motivated to do anything for the rest of the day.

What great talent lost, a son of a family lost. RIP Marco

RIP Marco. A great talent & a fantastic personality taken too early.

I was watching the race as well & I felt sick when I saw that helmet rolling down the road & then Marco sliding along clearly unconsious. I won't be surprised if Rossi pulls the pin after this, Simoncelli was one of his best friends & I'm sure he is devestated.
