greedy little bugger

had a quick little shark sesh on Monday night as it looked like the wind was gonna pick up over the week. Not much action with just a little bugger, but boy he must have been hungry! I had put out out a decent size blue mac with a few mulies wrapped around him hoping for something a bit bigger lol.
Managed to get the pics up from my phone, pretty happy bout that as im not great with technology.
Hopefully I can find the grand dady next time!!

Hey Cuthbad, nice baiting
Hey Cuthbad,
nice baiting up, do you cut off the gill plates?
also have you tried taking one fillet off on side turning it out (flesh explosed, skin/scales now in body) and using bait cotton. this gets way more of a scent out there. but if there are pickers get a mulie and cut it in hald put the flesh side over the exposed fillet that has arleady been tied so there is more prectection over the exposed side but it can still let a lot of scent out.
ill try find a video.

I keep the gill plates on,
I keep the gill plates on, there usually the toughest part so they stay in tacked quite well. I usually just cut the end of the tail off and make some incisions around the stomach etc
I been using like 9/0 gangs lately on mackies and seems to be doing the job

yeah... just use a pair of
yeah... just use a pair of scissors and cut the gill plates, only a little bit. so water can go through both and take blood and scent out through the gills.

yea ive seen that video
Thanks man, yea ive seen that video mate.
i used to cut the gills off now i just stab through them a bit. im not a fan of turning the fillets on blue macs, get destroyed too quick by pickers, they fall appart quickly anyway. the other side of the bait has a few slices cut into it then covered with mulies to stop the pickers. Still cant leave it out more than about 40 mins in most places though....
cheers

picked up his brother
picked up his brother tonight, 20cm or so bigger. Kept this guy as the bloke fishing next to me enjoys flake and has given me some live bait in the past, so repayed the favour with a fillet.
Will post pics of the shark head slide bait when its used (prob tomorrow night) and if its my day then a pic of the monster tiger that picks it up lol
