Get the trolling gear out

 G'day

Haven't seen many (any) posts about Tuna, Mackies and Kings in the last month. Anyone been getting out there and dragging some lures around in recent weeks?

We are going to launch the tub tomorrow and hopefully wrangle a few inshore pelagics. Done quite well the last couple of years, but have found it starts firing around the start of Jan, and will generally fire inshore before offshore. Two summers ago we were catching 6-8 kings a trip, last year we got only 1 all season. But managed heaps of Tuna and our first metro mackie.

Anyone got into any pelagics yet?

We got a small bluefin Tuna a couple of weeks back. It was just on the outside of Little island near Hillaries. It appeared to be cruising around by itself, there wasn't any bait in the water and we couldn't see any signs of a school of them.

We also trolled around Saturday last weekend but didn't get anything. We went out about 8Nm from Ocean Reef, found some big bait schools out there but they were all down deep and weren't getting harrassed by the pelagics. No signs of bird action or anything.

Checked my king spots a few times last couple weeks absolutely dead no bait around on any of them, when they're on the place is packed with white bait. I think rotto probably the best bet

Trolled from 5am to 1230pm, and didn't turn a reel. Very little bird activity, fair amount of weed inshore (mindarie) and the water temp was pretty low 20.2-20.5.

Will give it a couple more weeks before we hit it again.

Bluefin tuna were at the back

Bluefin tuna were at the back of staggies last weekend. Was very slow going until we noticed the birds diving and the tuna free jumping. Water was 22-23 degrees and managed 3 @55cms before they spooked

I caught my bag of bluefin

I caught my bag of bluefin off bunbury about 2 months ago. Tried again today off mandurah, only smaller schools holding few fish which were very flighty so we couldnt get a lure in amongst them. no inshore stripeys though, still too cold for them i think
