Garfish

I was watching "fishing Australia" & a few garfish were caught in NSW among heaps of other varieties you would catch in WA. As I used to enjoy getting a few around Port Philip Bay using a long float i wondered if i will encounter any in WA? Aussie bass was another fish you fishwreckers never mention.

I`d rather be fishin`

Garfish are prolific in WA, using the same tactics you would use over east.

Berley, Float, small hooks & wogs (aka gents/maggots).

I tend to fish around Garden Isl where they show up in droves, however they are generally a bycatch when targeting herring (aka tommy ruff). I assume if LB would be able to catch a feed from some of the popular groynes around metro

Thanks carassius, Thats another fishing adventure I will look forward to when I move over in about 4 months. We used to roll garfish with a rolling pin to break up the small chalky bones, that way didnt need to fillet them.

What about the bass, any of them in WA??

No Bass rainbow, Southern WA

No Bass rainbow, Southern WA has very little in the way of fresh water fishing. A few rivers in the extreme southwest corner hold some trout and redfin, apart from that most rivers peter out as soon as you get any distance from the coast

yeah a bit of burley can also bring them around, over east we used to fillet one of the flathead and sut it into little thin strips and thread them onto a size 12 long shank hook under a pencil float, always got a feed
