Hey Vinnie!
I would have certainly looked at a change over had Furuno gone chirp.
The dragonfly is not bad for the price but I miss a few of the features other models have.
No doubt the 585 & 587 are proven, I probably should have gone that way ages ago.

Really not too many people
Really not too many people getting proven results from chirp in deep water. Plenty getting good results running 587's and conventional transducers though.

yeah so it seems
obviously a reason Furuno didnt go down that path with the small units, perhaps waiting for better tec?

Or even the new CVS 128B. Same size unit as the 588 but 2kw and variable frequency.

That's the unit. There seems to be mixed info out there.
This Australian supplier has them as 2kw, also the attached brochure says 2kw as well.

I have the CVS 128 and can't fault it except for it struggles with depths over 250m that's why I was liking the idea of a 2kw unit.

Love mine Andy but as I said above it struggles out wide for the deep drop stuff. I can still get a a reasonable image out there but have to go very slow to do so.

Koden help?
i have the 2kw koden system through hull, unit is amazing. I'm just having a few dramas getting clear readings of ground over 100m at low speeds, I can get clear ground readings at any speed upto 100m it's as if I have a setting wrong or something. ping or screen speed? Any ideas
just odd that when I drop over 100m at love speeds below 5knots I get a broken/distorted bottom reading, above 5 knots I can pick ground up clear to 450m, Any help would be appreciated.

^^ Haha two bloke come into a Furuno thread and suggest someone buy a different brand unit that they have and then they or others complain that they can't get a decent picture on theirs. Pure comedy gold.

Mate has the cvs128 in his
Mate has the cvs128 in his and I have the 587. I don't mind using the koden but think it takes a little more tweaking than the 587.

New 588 does not look to be
New 588 does not look to be much of an upgrade. As for te 587 taking over the 585, almost none of the new features will be of any use to the experienced fisho.
I use NONE of the upgrades from the 585 to 587 on my unit....accufish and bottom discrimination are a gimmick and of no use to anyone who knows what they are doing.
I suspect RESBOOST will be the same. It appears to be an attempt to get a "chirp" look to the sounder.....don't know why, I love the look of the standard 585/587 and will always keep it even now I have CHIRP as it shows fish bigger/"better" than CHIRP.
So...I would bet the 588 will be for all intents and purposes the same as the 587 and 585 before it. BUT, this is not a bad thing, as they are all great sounders.
Extra $500 for RESBOOST......hmmmm. No doubt this will still be a great stand alone sounder, but $2250 RRP....phark, you can get a lot more for this kind of money!
I wonder if they sorted out the poxy TLL transfer of waypoints to GPS fiasco.....e

Yep!
I used mine for the first time yesterday and fished in 200m of water.
I have not used a 585/587 so I can't comment on how good it is VS older units.
It was my first deep drop trip and we got 4 grey band which was aweome :)
