Flourocarbon (FC) without Bream?

ANYONE that has fished for bream (or certainly most) will swear by FC.

Is it an advantage when fishing for other species, especially in the ocean?

depends......

asked that question with jigging in mind and most say no.

FC is expensive and less supple and don't hold knots to well

hitting northern species with FC leader would depend on leader strength personally as explained for jigging.

mostly use mono leader for heavier leaders myself

Thanks Damo, two points...

I agree that it is both expensive and less suptle (not sure on the knots though)

Points are:

1) Used 20 lb Black magic Tough FC last sunday for the whiting hall, must try 'waypoint 36 again with mono for my wife Sealed and see if I AT LAST catch more.

2) I find FC 'stands out' more and is less prone to tangle.

Disgaree guys by all means...

current have a spool of 16lb FC

Sat, 2009-12-12 18:56

which I run for my soft plastic work on 14lb braid 5-8kg gear, also use up to 10lb on my bream 2-4kg gear using plastics for snapper and have pulled good fish, not whiting though

after that only black magic supple leader so I'm using it to "use it" cause its in the tackle box

FC does have its merits and the jigging leader was upwards of 40lb.

good abrasion resistence if find

Certainly agree on the abbrasion resistance.

My thrust on this is that bream can be pretty fussy pickers, so why wouldn't FC work with other 'line wary' fish?

One thing FC can benefit

One thing FC can benefit jigging is diameter.  If you can reduce lateral drag, you can reduce jig weight.  Any drag reduction is a good one.  Drag reduction is probably one of the top reasons braid is popular which leads to lighter sinkers and better bottom holding properties.  The refraction properties are just one of bonuses.  If you can reduce jig weight you can reduce the pain killers Cool

Bed for me..

Nice staying power given the timing of your post Laughing. Yup, gotta love braid for meany reasons, including 'line print' when drift/currents are involved.
