Fishing X Betting

Some people may disagree with me on this, but from the moment you tie a lure/ jig on your line and drop it over the side/cast it out is like betting money on  a horse/ whatever,  there is no guarantee you are going to see it again.

I've got a couple of mates who have magic contents in their tackle boxes but won't even dream of chucking one of the expensive lures on because of the risk of losing it, and instead use a cheaper version. You can do things to lessen the risk by longer/stronger leaders/traces but the risk is still there regardless.

That risk and the hope of catching a new  personal best of a target specie is what gets a lot of us bitten by the bug and once bitten it will stay with you for a long time.

Bit deep and meaning ful  especially from me!!

Ahh I so agree.

When conditions were foul on Tuesday, I was going to bring in a good jig and put out a cheaper one, because the risk of losing it was so high. But I didn't and then I lost it!

Bye bye andaman!

im not so fussed because if

im not so fussed because if you ask me..alot of todays fishing has got to do with the bling factor!!!!

i would like to see how many cheapy lures perform better than $$$$ ones.

i am still old shcool with alvey snapper winches and the cheaper side of gear, it works!

but saying that i am still waiting for that big 20kg jewy.

prime example would be jessie(paul g) 20 kg jewy on a $20 rod/reel... right place right time!

do the fish know the differance????? but i am sure the tackle shops do???

Yeah, when I fish a new

Fri, 2010-10-15 19:08

Yeah, when I fish a new ground I always start with a cheap lure/rig, to see, what it’s like. How often it gets snagged and so on. Before I chuck something more expensive out.

I rather not start about the money side of fishing. I just counted expenses on my little inflatable I've set up, and mainly how big chunk our government takes of everything.. And then make even more rules and regulation so they seem “busy” doing the “right” thing… It’s not funny.

lol why buy it if your not

Fri, 2010-10-15 19:56

lol why buy it if your not gonna use it? usually when you pay more money you get the better item. but i guess i always buy qaulity so im always using qaulity so if i loose a jig or anything i just go and buy another its not the end of the world.

Yer I agree, why buy

Fri, 2010-10-15 20:07

Yer I agree, why buy something if its just going to sit in your tackle box. I believe in using the best jig/lure that I think will get the job done. Doesn't always mean the most expensive. The only time I go the buget lures is when I keep getting bricked by unstopables.

Colours + lures

Fri, 2010-10-15 21:17

With all the colours and shapes of lures available asks the question, why? ---Lures are designed to catch fishermen, not fish!!. How many fish have you seen a fish swimming into a tackle shop with a fin full of dollars buying something that appealed to it?

Having caught herring and salmon on bits of drinking straw and plastic tubing, southern bluefin, YFT etc on a bit of rag tied to a hook and its something I still try and succeed in doing  without all the bling yet comes the question we all ask ourselves, why do we all have that extra tacklebox with the better? lures in it?

thats a good thought there

Fri, 2010-10-15 21:47

thats a good thought there John. i personally will spend the $ on rods and reels within reason but i cant and wont spend big dollars on terminal tackle, yeah i buy some lures but nothing over the $25 mark. i spose it depends on what sort of fishing you do and what your budget is on that sort of stuff

that seems odd as the fish

Fri, 2010-10-15 21:55

that seems odd as the fish doesn't give a 5h1t about your rod and reel combo although i completely agree it's much much nicer to use. the terminal end is where the trickery is.

i personally noticed a massive difference between the old way using 80 - 100lb terminal leader on paternoster rig , 3 way swivels and such  and then swapping to the baitless 40lb fluro and good jap jigs. or lighter and plastics.

the more expensive jigs do seem to get a better hook up rate with me. (maybe i am using them more .....)
