fishing with surf popper

Used surf poppers for the first time on the weekend, we went down to binningup camping with the MRS and Kids .managed to squeeze in some fishing ,i put on my new surf popper and 4 gang mulie rig and sent it out .i was only fishing for about an hour on sunset and ended up with 6 40cm tailor.3 of them were taken on the popper which i thought was a great result, it felt like they chased it and hit it a bit harder which was fun.

I only heard of these poppers on this site so thanks to the guys who have been discussing them ,i think i've found my favourite Tailor rig

Did you try putting some tuna oil or other attractant on the feathers. I find that makes them even more deadly.

Squidgy tails

Tue, 2010-01-26 21:49

We have just got back from over East and alot of the guys that were beach fishing have started to use Squidgy tails now instead of the surf poppers. They were using them the same way as the popper, just not using the jig head, just a hook. They were catching alot of Tailor and also Flathead.

The rig would have a one set of gangs closest to the main line,

a second hook which the squidgie would be threaded on about 12 to 20 cm below that and then a loop or clip swivel on the bottom to which a sinker would be attached.

Im guessing as a second hook

Im guessing as a second hook on the rig. From a dropper loop off the mainline going down to a ganged mullie would work well.
