Hi I am new to boating and have just purchased a trailcraft 4.75 freestyle with a 60HP 4stroke my 14 year old son wants to go sea fishing. Could anyone give us few tips we were thinking of somewhere sheltered like Cockburn sound.

Gday Steveoryou, I started fishing 6 years ago with a 14ft 25hp tinny in and out of cockburn sound, ended up in 40 mtrs of water, weather permitting, and have recently upgraded to a 5.6mtr swiftcraft. I have learnt alot and alot more to learn.
If you are new to boating then cockburn sound is a good place to start. Plenty of seafood to be caught and a good learning ground for a new skipper. Even though the Sound is sheltrered it can turn into a washing machine very quickly. When going out check more than 1 website for weather details and always look at the future forecast of your journey and not just the start of the journey. If it forecasts a seabreeze to be in at 330pm then its a good bet that 2hrs before the stated time the sea will start to change and it can change very quick. There will be alot more added to what i am saying and I can be corrected too but always check the weather forecasts, have all safety equipment onboard and then enjoy your fishing.
And learn to read your sounder.
Goodluck
