Caught this little fella on a jig in 290m on a ruby mark off exmouth. Cut its neck and a s$&t load of blood came out. When it was filleted the meat was still really red almost like tuna.
Pretty ballsy having a crack at a 650g jig. Thought it was sumthing good but was just dragged up sideways.
The boys called it a rusty trumpet fish..

Japanese Rubyfish maybe?
There has been a few of these caught around the Derwent over the years.

How big do they grow to
That small one seems to have a large mouth for its size.

thats a leigh head job fish reece, great bait. some of those "big show" ruby spots are loaded with em.
