Western Australian Butterfish Pentapodus vitta. I just wanted to make the point that this is a WA endemic - i.e. only found in WA. Maybe it's not important to everyone, but the south-west and west coasts of Australia are unique places with many endemic species and this is one of them. Even though it might not get eaten, this fact puts it in the same special group as a few other endemics you might have heard of - WA Dhufish and Baldchin Groper, just to name two
Glen Moore, you saying there are limits and sizes etc that need to be observed for this fish? I landed a few yesterday around the 500 gram mark, and the wife said she hoped they tasted like trout - I never tried, as I did not want to breach any regulations. Anybody eaten them yet? Any restrictions and regulations around this fish?? Thanks for the info so far...
No mate, not saying that - I just have an interest in WA fishes, so I was just pointing out that they are not found anywhere else in the world. I think they are low risk species which means you can take 30 per day, but check yourself. I don't think they are that flash to eat, but some people do eat them.
