Exmouth in May
Submitted by Simo_ on Fri, 2020-03-20 06:28
Hey Guys, I'm booked in for 3 weeks at the RAC caravan in Exmouth in May. Anyone know if caravan parks will be closing? I thought someone here might know someone who is in the industry and has the inside word.
Cheers

Exmouth in May
I booked a house in Sept last year for May this year and paid a non-refundable 50% deposit and didnt bother getting travel insurance because hey, barring tragedy, nothing was going to stop us.
Enter Covid19, what a pain in the arse this is.
Tuesday this week i recieved an email from Exmouth Holidays saying that Exmouth is business as usual and are ready for the tourism season. They went on say that they have reviewed their cancellation policy in light of the virus and anyone who had booked prior to 17/3/2020 and with an arrival date prior to 31/5/2020 can recieve a full refund if they wish to cancel. They also stated that the refund is subject to change at any time with them reverting back to the normal cancellation policy.
Cancel now and get a refund? Or wait and see and potentially lose $1500.00?
F@#k the virus and F@#k the 1500 if I lose it - I am hanging out for Exy in May so will take the punt!
Biggest piss off is my son who is currently working in the Netherlands and wants to come to Exy also but may prove too difficult for him.

How are they going to stop it unless a total lock down or some kind of marshall law? They want us to spend money on the local economy so what the fuck lol.

I understand a lot of jokes
I understand a lot of jokes etc here but people need to understand and UNDERSTAND FULLY.
The more people travel the more people will get infected. the more people who become infected the more overloaded the health system will become. and the more people will quite literally die. Iit probably wont be you it will probably will be someone you don't know and have never met. Someone eles's grandad or mom.
I have friends in both Italy (Northern ) and the USA whom I comunicate regularly. What is coming out in social media is the tip of the iceberg.
If you think you will interact with less people while on holiday you are deluded. Do the right thing stay home.
Fishing and anual trips are special to everyone here but this is more important.
If you want to flame me for this go on ahead.

well said, D.D.01
There's been a lot of total self interest and denial on display out there. Yes, some of us will go WAAAHHH ! if we can't have our annual trip away, but we need to look at the bigger picture. And boy, is it big. If you have planned to go to a caravan park, think about the shared facilities you have to use. Not to mention the fact that you will doubtless want to go out to dinner. Same for those who have a house rental planned. Remote camping? Probably OK, if you manage the risk about fuelling up on the trip/buying roadhouse food as you go. Going on a group charter?--sounds like a good incubator. Anything that causes people to gather in groups , or have need to be even transiently in the presence of a lot of other people, is just not a good idea. it's all about limiting the spread.
Here is a really simple graphic that illustrates how limiting works
The multiplying effect can be enormous.
I had two trips planned. The first one, at Easter, simply involved towing the boat up to Denham, putting it in the water, and buggering off to Dirk Hartog/South passage for a week. Can't get much more isolated than that, with almost no interactions, just need to fuel the ute once . Will that be allowable? I would think so. The second is the annual Ningaloo trip, a month at a remote spot. I could see that being more vulnerable, DPAW may just close their sites? And you still need to go into Exmouth once for fuel and stores.
