Europe and UK
Submitted by Belly88 on Mon, 2014-01-06 14:44
Hi all heading to Europe and the UK in Feb for 2 months which I'm pretty excited about..
Does anyone have any must fish places or types of fish while I'm over there??
Locked in is ice fishing in Northern Finland but that about it so far so I'm open to ideas..
Places I'm heading are Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Finland, Estonia, Sweden and then road tripping the UK and Ireland for a month
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Belly

salmon
if its in season you shouldnt have any trouble getting a few salmon in scotland and ireland although there are quite a few rules involved so it might be worth going with a guide fly fishing is pretty popular. You have probably seen the carp style fishing on TV a bit boring but you can do that too. The ocean fishing around western europe is well below par so dont expect too much maybe go look at a castle instead lol
have a good trip

Europe
Haha I know what you mean Aaron but I'm not sure that the misses will like me straying with euro chicks.. The best I'll get is a day off a week from sight seeing to go fishing..
Im happy with that :-)
Thanks for the reply Robert I'll check that out..

Hey mateI have just moved to
Hey mate
I have just moved to London and am starting to try and suss out the fishing situation a bit.
From what I can see most of the fishing that interests me (jigging the wrecks for cod etc.) seems to fire up from April onwards. When is the end of your trip? If the timing is right maybe we could hit up a charter out of northern england - I have a couple I'm lining up now.
Same with some trips of Scotland and Norway that I'm looking at, but all of those you want the warmer months (May/June - October) or it is dark all day and not much for fishing I hear.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Trip
Hey mate..
The end of my trip is the 1st of April.. I'm in the uk from the 10th of March. Keen as to catch up for a fish for anything if your keen..
I have tryed to book 2 charters in the UK so far. The first in Brighton hasn't emailed me back at all and the second is in Whitley and they replayed once then haven't since.. Seems they don't want my business..
Any ideas on charters that might want my money?
I've also booked a guided pike fishing trip in Ireland. That should be good..

If your heading over to
If your heading over to Ireland you should try a charter down in Kilmore Quay in County Wexford it's a 2 hour drive south of Dublin. The place fishes it's socks off from Febuary through till October for big Cod,Pollock,Seabass etc. My mate runs a charter out of County Wicklow about 45 mins south of Dublin called Wicklow boat charters and he will put you on all the bigger species like Tope,Bullhuss, smoothound etc. If you mention me you'll be sure to get looked after he's a top guide!!
Check out his web page his names Kit Dunne

Cheers Stewart, Ireland charters are off limits to me now as i already have one booked there so its just sightseeing for ireland now..
Im really surprised that no one on here knows someone in the UK that runs a cod fishing charter. Millions of poms here nowdays that love fishing, would have thought they would also have fished there to... Maybe the fishing is just really average there..
Cheers everyone

Have a look around sites for
Have a look around sites for fishing out of Weymouth in the UK. A few lads out of my club back home have fished there and they highly recommend it for decent Seabass,Cod,Pollock etc. but to be honest the Mecca for cod fishing is hands down Norway from both shore and boat.
No bites from the Poms to give ya a few decent spots to fish, shocking but not surprising :-)
Best of luck on your trip,
Stewart

fishing is pretty seasonal and you are heading over at the coldest sea temp time of year.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Hey mate
Do you mean 8/9 February? If so then I can help - I have a charter already booked near to where you'll be located on 8 February.
Drop me a PM if keen.
If you mean 8/9 March then unfortunately I'll be back in Perth for a wedding.
