diving for cray off gero
hey all
yesturday spooled myself and a mate james decided to take spooled dinghy for a diveoff gero for some cray. spooled picked us up about 1.30 and we were off to a beach ramp. we put the boaty in the water and we were off , james and i are scuba divers and spooled free dives. so we got to a spot anchored up and let spooled have a look around while james and myself got our gear ready. we got the go ahead from spooled so we started to put our gear on, as i stood up to put my bc on i lost my balance and fell over the side taking james with me. as we held to the side of the dinghy as it filled up with water we've looked at each other and both bailed at the same time. james helped me with my gear then took his off jumped aboard the half full dinghy and got the rest of the gear then we were off.
we went down about 4 m looking for ledges didnt find much at all, so i signalled james and decided to go in to 2.5m we came across some holes and boy it was full. we both gone in and attacked the crays coming out each time one in each hand. after filling the catch bag i decided to surface and check my bearing back to the dinghy. i hit the surface looked at the dinghy to see spooled back aboard bailing like crazy, he didnt no we had filled it getting ready. ha ha. we signalled him and he drove the dinghy over to pick us up. i had enough air so i went back down to the hole and got a couple more then got back on the dinghy. we ended up with 12 with most of them coming from my catch bag. as we gauged the crays i noticed the motor half off the back and told spooled who grabed and tightened it back to the tinny lucky for him it didnt come off. we came in to the boat ramp put it back on the trailer and the fisheries research lady came and measured them all and checked the sexs with the biggest measuing 85.5mm nice white.
today spooled, poddy, james and myself went again we decided to go to st georges and arrived at 3.30 looked around it looked pretty stirred up and the swell pumping so we all decided to go to explosive that was the same. stuff this we made a dash to mitchell and brown which didnt look to bad so we geared up and were in the water not problems today. james and myself headed to the bottom straight away to get away from the swell and headed strtaight out came across a few patches of crays but not to many. about an hour later we were back in the cray count wa spooled and poddy 2 james 1 and i got 4 two nice big whites. the high light of the arvo was a seal following us in playing around in the surf.
sorry guys didnt get any photos

Good read Flagpole
good stuff with the crays, I had a bit of a laugh at your misfortune going over the side. I went over the side of a tinny a couple of days ago, while pulling my pot near Point Moore.
Wasn't funny at the time had a laugh later. Not much in the way of crays yet (pots), Im guessing there not moving much at the moment and the upcoming moon wont help. Thanks for the read mate.

You bastards!!! I panicked like shit. My crays were happy though. Throw them in the boat and they were still swimming in foot and half of water. Found it interesting that they didnt make a clunk when the hit the deck. I %$# myself when I jumped in boat. checked the bungs then thought must have been crack in boat or just got a freak wave break on the tinny while we were all down. Would have been funny watching me from shore thats sure. Like you say atleast Pete filled the tub on return not with water this time

mmm yes that swell and very ugly murk made for hard diving thats for sure... when you cant see the bottom in 4m from the surface it makes finding that ledge u just seen with a gooden under it a touch harder to find again lol... that seal was unreal thats for sure! cant wait to get this ear cleaned out but gives me abit of greif after a dive! tad suprised we didnt see a few more crays tho flaggy. ground looked the goods. although u said u seen quiet a few.. i wanna go back there again see if them "fisheries" officets jog past on a regular basis aswell LOL!!!
