Dawsville Cut
Submitted by maldugs on Tue, 2019-06-25 16:44
Hi, I would like to take a couple of my grandkids, to fish in the inlet and Dawsville cut, I have a 5m Quintrex, and will launch at dawsville, does anyone here fish in and around the cut, and is it worth anchoring in the Cut and what fish do you catch, I have not been there before.
Thanks Mal.

Been a while but for herring
Been a while but for herring I always had the most luck anchoring just east of the cut in the inlet just outside the channels. North or south it doesn't really matter. Only in about 1.5 to 2m of water

East side of the marina
East side of the marina entrance just pass the end of the groin a few boats anchor around there for herring, tailor, and skippy. I use to fish the second bridge pylon from the south side and bait cast mulies to it for tailor and the odd herring. I use to fish the late arvo till dark.

+1 for East side for Herring & Tailor
If the dolphins show up you may as well pull anchor and tour the canals as the fish shutdown when they are around.
Tarwhine and baby snapper at the entrance to the small canal on the south side (Southport?). Something different for the kids to catch but you won't take any home as they are all undersize.

There’s a big sandpatch at
There’s a big sandpatch at the end of the rockwall on the SE end at the estuary entrance that holds some KG’s and squid to be had if you can nail the slack tide
