Coral Bay - Solo Traveler
Hey Peeps.
My boss wants me to take leave asap and I cant really afford to go anywhere expensive so i was thinking of doing a week camping in Coral Bay travelling the weekends either side of the week i take off. I know May/June is a better time to go to Coral Bay, but is it that terrible if I cant push my leave out and go in say a month? Id probably drive which wont be fun doing it alone and ill only have the basics camping wise. I would ideally like to get in on a fishing charter while there, but it would have to be at the very end of my stay as i wont have an engel and will need to bring anything i catch back on ice. Advice on if this is even a good idea would be great... or open to suggestions on another place to go that's not going to kill my bank account. Thanks everyone :)

Coral bay is usually pretty
Coral bay is usually pretty windy this time of year, If I was you I would push the leave as far back as possible. but now is always better than not going. :)
for the drive up it's easy watch out around wooramel for cows, and don't do the Exmouth road at night for cows.
You could always stay at the backpackers there ...it can be pretty social. And there are plenty of places that will keep fillets in a freezer for you for a pretty minimal cost so do a charter whenever you can.
have fun

If you want company put an add in gumtree offering a lift. We did this both ways up and down and shared the fuel. Lots of backpackers looking for a cheap lift. Can be fun too. Wink wink. Heading up there are some great camping spots too. As said above watch at night for cows north of Canarvon.

Coral bay is a great place
Coral bay is a great place regardless of what time you go , yes it might be windy but you can still go snorkeling or just relax and exmouth is worth exploring if the wind is really shit .
im biased but i also like Dampier because of all the islands that a boat can shelter behind .
if you end up coming up this far (karratha/dampier) your welcome to jump on board

Horrocks
Horrocks or Port Gregory, between Geradton and Kalbarri, caravan park camping. Both good and quite, on need for a 4x4.

Thanks Ernie. I did scan that
Thanks Ernie. I did scan that area a bit while googling. Better distance wise. I dont have a 4x4 though. i kinda want it to be a relaxing trip too, and prefer somewhere that does charters so i don't look like a complete idiot that doesn't know what shes doing lol

Have you thought about
Have you thought about Kalbarri ? Good beach fishing, also the estuary to throw a line in. Mulloway, big tailor, jacks to be caught.
There's also Evolution or Reefwalker Charters, both same price, $270 for full day charter.
Plenty of accommodation including caravan park camping.
Also the gorges and cliffs for a bit of sightseeing, and drive it easy in a day.

Sainthood?
Yes , thats was my idea too the Saint , i say Kalbarri is far enough away to feel your on holiday, you have the river and the beach , the sightseeing is great
without a 4x4 , the charters are productive , its my pick Helen, save coral bay for a more planned trip .
I would put your gumtree price as negotiable, and just leave it as that haha, cause it depends on your condition and how much life you got left in you!!!

Thanks Fellas

Coral bay
If you head up to coral bay it might be worth checking which charter boats will be running at the time. Pretty sure seaforce will be up at exmouth for gamex and AIBT.
I would imagine atleast one of bernies boats would still be working coral bay at that time, but worth checking on.
BTW my vote is definitely commit and head to coral bay!! If possible just hold off until you see a nice week weather wise and shoot up if the boss will allow!

Great place CB, my mate
Great place CB, my mate Steve is taking his Whaleshark boats back up for the Whaleshark season at the end of the month.
When I drive up I do it in a day, leave rockingham 3_4am and get to CB before nightfall. Plenty to do up there but will cost or just enjoy the beaches, take some snorkel gear and check out the corals just off the beach, great place to relax and do nothing, or go fishing at the boat ramp if land base. Pubs good for a beer. If you like walking turn right on the beach and walk a few ks turtle beach. You need a 4WD for other places like 5 fingers and oyser bridge.
With bringing back fillets just ask around for foamies ( foam boxes the pros use) freeze the fillets pack on the day you leave and use tape to seal the lid. Will still be frozen when you get home
More drum lines, kill the bloody sharks!

Land based its prob the best
Land based its prob the best time of year for cb now. Lots of bait inside the reef with queenies and trevs crashing them leading up to the tide changes. If you have a 4b and camping worth a trip up the coast a bit more but if not hit Maud’s landing at sunsets and the boat ramp or reefs south on tide changes and you should get a few. If it’s your first time in CB you have to do a bit of snorkeling and maby jump on a tour. Few whale sharks showing up in close lately so might get lucky. We are not available atm but Mahi Mahi should be able to show you a good day and a feed.
