Chalky fiber glass
Submitted by Fish guts on Sun, 2013-04-21 14:40
My dad just bought an old swift craft tempest. the boat has spent most of its time in the sun and the fibre glass has gone all chalky. without having to re gell coat the whole thing, what is a good fix to make it look all new again or at least stop the chalkyness? Thanks in advance :)

try cutting it back with some
very fine sand paper make sure you use wet and dry paper with some water then buy some good polish and polish it then repolish a few months later! it will come up very nice! very labour intensive but well worth it

give it a wash , then rub
give it a wash , then rub vasoline into it. Just wipe the vaso onto a rag and apply. It absorbs right up and also gives it a water proof coating.

dunno about vasso
being petroleum based it would heat up and get very warm sitting in the sun. I just used a fine cut polish with ukanuba wax and a buffing pad on the end of a drill. I probably spelt it wrong and I am very sorry if it offends anyone.

Cut and polish is the way to
Cut and polish is the way to go,just watch that your buffer doesnt spin to fast or it will do more damage than good. The type they use for cars usually spin to fast.
